Hi,

Is Find My live tracking supposed to be working? I'm looking at the Find My app and it still only refreshes after every 30 seconds or so?

Are those you’re tracking also on iOS 15?
No, they are not. I'm also tracking AirTags which again only refreshes every 30 secs or so. Do the other devices need to be on iOS 15 as well to see real time tracking? If that's the case, will there be an update to AirTags as well to do the same?

Live tracking has to be iOS 15.

I don’t think that will be the same for AirTags because of their battery life but could be wrong.

Doesn’t appear to be working even when both on iOS 15. We just tried with full batteries, perfect signal coverage - doesn’t update live but still just every few minutes like before. What’s going on? Works in WhatsApp so I know it’s not our location etc.

I just checked one of mine. It shows "Live" on the find my screen but the phone wasn't moving at the time so I can't say for sure.

How do you mean by ‘shows live’? I can see the icon on the map, however upon moving it jumps to the next location maybe 1-2 minutes at a time.

It’s working just fine for me. I watched my partner drive home last night live on the map, and he watched me drive to the track went I went for a run.

When you choose the contact, it will say “Live” under their name. My partner restarted his phone (I’ve been on the beta, he updated from 14.8) after he updated and it was working. It’ll look like this:

Live Tracking is only for people you share your location with in Find My. It doesn’t have live location for any accessories or devices.

Yes, it also only works if both parties have iOS 15 as well I believe. I'm not sure if it is also device specific as well? Tried it the other day with the wife and it works really well, better than I thought. Much better than the 30 sec (or whatever it is) refreshes.

Really well is an understatement lol. I saw my wife doing a back in to park in a parking spot.

Only issue i have is after tapping on a person it immediately says “Live” when it’s still showing old position trying to update it. If it can’t update it also still shows “Live” instead of time of last position (like how many minutes ago) & in progress spinning icon. Tapping back to main view shows time of last update for person, and I realized it was old and last contact time in red.

Shouldn’t show “Live” until current and actually “Live”. It might an issue with family split on who has updated to 15. Maybe when all are on 15 tapping on the one with 15 won’t show “live” while it’s actually from 2 hours ago or how ever long ago it happens to be. For now if person with 15 is not actually driving i have to tap back to all family view and see if that family member on 15 is showing position as Now or with an older time which should not have to happen and didn’t on older versions (or with family members still on 14 or earlier).

Heya guys I wanted to see your experiences with the Live tracking...
I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I can't seem to get live location to work.

My Wife and my brother are on iPhone 12 Pro's and running iOS 15.
I can see each of them live, but neither of them can see me live.
They will see the "Live" text with a flower spinning icon but never changes to just "Live" like it does when I can track them.

My location then switches after a couple of minutes from Live with the flower icon, to Now and then location updated X minutes ago like it would on iOS 14.

I have tried:
-factory reset of my phone and set it up as a new device.
-deleted them from find my and re-adding them.
-factory reset my Apple Watch
-tested on wifi vs cellular

If I set my locations source to be my iPad, it works every time.
It just fails as soon as my iPhone is set as the source.

Cheers!

Find My seems to be significantly worse than before. Sometimes it doesn't update until I tap on the person multiple times, or I have to force close the app and reopen it.

It used to be about the same on the iPhone and Mac, now it's worse on the iPhone after updating to iOS 15, but it works the same on my Mac.

At the time of writing I'm on iOS / iPadOS 15.0.2. Since iOS 15, I've not had a problem at all with Find My live location and have used it a lot at various times during the day and different locations. It has been excellent and a massive improvement to the 'static refreshes'. I think someone pointed out before, its so accurate, I can see when a car is reversing and doing a 3 point turn! The addition of the separation alert working on the Apple Watch is a killer deal for me, that's something I've always wanted and now have.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah it works great for me checking on my family members. But none of them can see a live location for me. Every so often, it might work for 3-4 minutes and then it goes back to the old behaviour from earlier versions of iOS.

Are you using an iPhone 13? As I previously mentioned, if I share my location from my iPad (instead of iPhone/Apple Watch) "my" live location works just fine.
