As many of u know, I own the domain "www.eye-creative.com." I have it with the dash in it because the domain without a dash was already taken. Today I'm in the process of snooping around & am about to buy a couple more domains. I happened to type in www.eyecreative.com, and the page is unavailable. I recall seeing an August date for expiration, but am curious to know more. Does anyone know how soon a domain can be obtained upon expiration? How can do it quickly? Any sources I can turn to? thanks in advance!
Network Solutions has a 'backorder' service that watches for expiring domains and will attemt to register them to you as soon as they are available. I've never used it, so I'm not sure how well it works, or if there are better deals out there. http://www.networksolutions.com/ Just type in the domain, and if it's not available, click the 'backorder' link for more info.
You can do a whois search at www.register.com as well, they don't have the 'bot protection set up, so its a bit easier. Looks like the domain times out August 20th....good luck getting it. D
After a domain expires there is a 60 day "grace period" for the person to re-register the domain. So unless August 20th is after the 60 days your still going to have to wait a while. BEN
go to Applications>Utilities>Network Utility. Run the application. Go to the "whois" tab. enter the domain name to look it up. it will show all whois info, exp date, etc. *edit* maybe i misunderstood the original post. i thought he was just looking to see the status of a domain so i don't know if this helps any. oops.
Re: expiring domains Anybody want this one, it's expiring soon ... Domain Name: MACOSRUMORS.COM Administrative Contact, Technical Contact: Meader, Ryan Record expires on 16-Jul-2003. Record created on 20-Sep-2002. Database last updated on 15-Jul-2003 15:30:09 EDT.
wow, didn't even know that was there - very cool stuff - thanks. And yes it works, almost too good... D
glad to help. there are some other neat things you can do with it as well. it's fun to mess around with. cheers.
I was truly amazed when I found that utility -- it even includes a port scanner! Very handy stuff in that application.
It's amazing how many really useful features are tucked away in OS X. it seems like every week I discover something new. Thanks for the 'Network Utility' tip.
The 60 day thing can be annoying, but most people just register for "future use". another35mm.com had been registered but had expired 41 days prior to me registering them. It's probably best to do a whois on the site, and try and contact them to work something out.
I did that a couple months ago. The person offered to sell it to me, then mentioned something about possibly taking down the site. whatever... I'll just try my luck...thanks everyone...
Wow. I never knew that. Nice utility. It even has a ping tab... BTW: I just pinged my old elementary 100 times.
This thread reminded me to check on a domain I've had my eye on for years... and what do you know? It had expired! Now it's mine... all mine! When the website's up, I'll post the link.
