okay, just bought the new macbook pro and am wanting to upload video from my handycam.

unfortunately, the handycam uses firewire and there is now corresponding firewire port on the new MB pro.

so i bought the dynex firewire 800 expresscard adapter, but cannot get my MB to recognize it.

what should i do?

The MacBook Pro has FW800, which is backwards compatible with FW400 or the mini unpowered FW400 on the cameras.

Just need a FW800-to-FW400 cable or adapter, since the FW800 port has a new shape and more pins than the old FW400 port.

--- Edit

FW is just as bad as USB with all the port shapes, you can get a cable that matches the ports on both ends.

so the expresscard adapter is no good?

where do i get the adapter i need? the apple store didn't have it, neither did the sony store.

You don't need an adapter, buy a cable.

FW800 is 9 pin

FW400 is 6 pin

unpowered FW400 (on cameras) is 4 pin

Can either buy an adapter and a cable or just a cable.

Edit: Like I said before. FW is like USB, just do some port matching on the cable. The computer supports FW800 so it'll work with FW800 or anything below it if you get a cable and plug it in.

Should find something like this... Australia had the first FW cable page I could find.

If you really want an adapter, sonnet has one, and there are others.

But I tend not to like adapters, since they tend to add another stress point on the machine if you forget to remove it when you pick the machine up on the day you forget and are in a hurry to slap the machine in the case. The cable tends to be a 2-5 foot reminder flag.

word. so the card i got is no bueno?

and i should get a cable that goes from a 4 pin (on the camera) to a 9 pin (on the new macbook). is that right?

do u guys know a good place i can actually get a FW800 to 400 adapter

cause ima be using ACD
