I have to use Comcast wifi to get on net now....months ago on my MacMIni...the ethernet port dead...then I bought an Ethernet to Thunderbridge adapter for bringing signal into Mini from Modem...Now...its dead....spent a hour with Sr.Apple Advisor and finally she said to reinstall the OS 10.13.4...did that Friday with no improvement. So she sent me software to capture what is going on the macmini to send it to apple engineers to figure out...
Any ideas????

Does the device show up in Apple/About This Mac/System Report/Thunderbolt? It should appear in there, even if the Ethernet cable isn't connected.

OK, so the port itself is functioning. I suppose the next thing to try would be to boot into Recovery (Cmd-R at the boot chime) and see whether you can get online from there. I don't have the mode open in front of me but I'm pretty sure that there's a menu option or two that'll let you test the connection.
