this is the first mention of them using twitter that i've heard.
and believe me its been all over the news here.

although, IF they are using it shouldn't it be rather simple to track them down and get them behind bars? at least thats what you would think...

my personal opinion is that these are happening for a couple of reasons, mainly we're seeing them now because school is out for the summer, and the jobs that these kids would have typically worked at over the summer just aren't there anymore and the economy sucks so people get desperate.

boredom and desperation breed some bad behavior.

it is hard to arrest 200 thieves that are in and out of the store in under 5 mins ... the attraction is the minimal chance of getting caught.

and I thought Twitter was all about meaningless Tweets about nothing

no my point was that if they're using Twitter to 'organize' such acts it should in theory be easy enough to track the ringleaders down.

and if you think Twitter is just meaningless drivel then you clearly haven't used it or paid attention to what it is capable of being.

Anthony Weiner will be happy to tell us what it is capable of being, I'm sure. ;)

    Nah.

If a flash mob shows-up, just be able to push a button to lock them all in.

Let the police sort it out afterwards.

News just in: criminals use the telephone to organise illegal activity.

    We should obviously ban it.

Perhaps you should educate yourself by giving it a try then.

I'm in the camp that says Twitter is mostly pointless. Perhaps I'm just overly saturated with media, have no interest in celebrity babblings and have no need for minute by minute updates.

I agree though, new forms of communication aren't inherently responsible and if anything, it's surprising that it's taken this long for such a thing to happen.

^^^you could just not follow celebrities and avoid individuals/organizations that give minute by minute updates. Twitter is entirely customisable.

Which robbery has had 200 thieves? Was there one in the fox news article?

Also which one of the examples in the fox news article had the perpetrators using twitter?

Maybe it's just Faux, putting ideas out there, so they have something tangible to report?

Reading the article I'd say it's definitely fox trying to beat up a story where there isn't one. Not sure that is in any way tangible.

It's mostly pointless for me, but then again, so is texting (it's nearly impossible to do on my cell phone). These days the methods and modes of communication are becoming more and more diverse. We don't need to use each and every one.

I was questioning the source myself.

I like Twitter, on my terms.

I've been privy to a couple of births, and the wonder of new life.

    How is that bad?

You could spin that to say you have been informed over Twitter of the extremely painful culmination of someone's STI where the parasite is finally expelled. That doesn't sound as good! :D

Well the issue here is 75% of them grow up with no father, he is either in jail or banging someone else and taking no responsibility for anything.

Just a statement on whats wrong with the culture, everything starts at home. Here in Columbia we just had 8 boys and men of color nearly kill a 18 year old jogger. He was white and doing nothing, they were a gang of thugs looking for trouble. The local cops ....black chief refused to charge them for the federal hate crime this was. Just an observation.

The absence of a father figure is not an excuse for criminal behavior.

Though I do agree with the sentiment as it pertains to certain ethnic groups.

Twitter can't be un-invented, so opinions about it don't matter.

The flash-mob actions began (apparently) in Chicago, with three reported events of which I've read. Copy-catting has begun, with similar events reported elsewhere. The most recent of which I've read was at the Sears store near Philadelphia, IIRC. "Coming to a park or mall near you," I guess.
