Definitely a bright spot in a very long, dark tunnel.

America's march into the 21st will be complete when there are married, gay military couples where the civilian partner receives benefits and it's all recognized under federal law. When this happens, then we can really be living up to the "all men are created equal" thing that we've been touting for the past 3 centuries but was never really true.

Sadly, I don't see that happening for another 20 years or so.

Good god that's horrible. And sad. I honestly don't think it will take THAT long. I mean, DADT is on its way out, one way or another. And gay marriage should be heading to the supreme court within a couple of years. And with the two combined, there's no reason military benefits would be denied.

20 years ago we thought the same as you. Things can go against us very quickly. I've seen it happen before.

I wouldn't get too despondent Lee. Once the change starts to come you'll be amazed just how quickly it proceeds. Take a look at how it happened in some of the European countries. Years of absolutely nothing, then a few civil rights victories and suddenly equality legislation popping up all over the place.

America may be a Bible-bashing wasteland full of nutcases, but humanity as a whole has a predictable way of behaving. The USA is behind, but I'm confident it will follow the same path.

I'm not. Look at all the anti gay violence lately. And one need look no further than some of the idiots up for election this year to see that may not be the case.

those idiots can get elected but you now have multiple court cases on your side so any laws they would pass would quickly get challenge and declared unconstitutional.

Now God help us all if they some how get enough into office that would allow for a an amendment because the anti-gay laws they would pass would be the least of our problems.

Worse case all those nut jobs can do is delay progress at this point.

Last gasp of a desperate group IMO. Look at countries like Serbia, where the far right are storming Parliament and threatening to kill gay people. They know the time when they can influence public policy on gay issues is passing. It's exactly the same in the USA. A very vocal and angry minority lashing out because the world isn't going their way. The opinion polls tell the true story.

I can't imagine that Florida is the only one remaining with a ban, unfortunately.
