The Bush Doctrine?? More absurdity from Florida. Maybe when the ice packs melt we'll no longer have to worry about it, except that many of the idiots will probably escape. ;)

Just watched Minority Report (the movie) last night and it dawned on me that under Florida Law the murder that (almost) takes place at the beginning of the movie would result in acquittal... :p

Lawyers can argue anything they want.

I'll wait to see if a judge or jury buys it.

Now that would be ****ing crazy.

What WHAT?!? Oh NO, they called him a NAME?!?

Surely that's a threat if I ever heard one!!

Yeah, I don't see this one holding up in court...if it even gets that far.

Sneaking up on someone and shooting them is the exact opposite of what these laws were designed to protect. Citing the Bush doctrine just lets us know that he is bat **** crazy.

Now if he had snuck up on the barbecue with a gun pointed at these people and they shot him dead, that would be proper use of the law.

So in Florida, can I shoot a guy cause their muscles are bigger than mines and I feel threatened? I'll argue that it's possible we might get into a fight one day, and since he's twice my size, it's better to just shoot and kill anyone that can beat me up.

That's the problem with stand your ground laws, anyone can claim that they were acting in self defence, the only question as to which on is right is who is left alive to present their side of the story.

Exactly. These guys first should have gotten a warning. If they called him names again, then they deserved a time out. After that, they could have been banned.

Even though this will likely will not hold up in court, an argument can be made that the SYG law is giving some people false premise of reason to shoot and that some would have not fired without the SYG law.

It would appear to me that Florida's definition of SYG is overly broad.

I support SYG but this case does not hold water in my mind. You don't sneak up on someone, shot them a bunch of times, and then claim stand your ground...

    A Labor Day barbecue... hmmmmm...

If he would have covered them in BBQ sauce and tossed them on the grill, he might have had a chance at the insanity defense.

Now, now, it will only take 48 attempts to defund it...
