There were a lot of people who returned their iPhone X for the 8/8+ for various reasons. Looking back now are you still happy with that choice or have you regretted it?

haha I am OCD about tech and I got the X on launch and then went to the 8+ mainly because my eyes are crap. I do dig the 8+ (not my first plus phone) but the design is a bit tired and I find myself looking to maybe get an X again. Both are nice phones just need the damn display zoom in the X c'mon Apple!

Switched back to the 8 after using the X for 10 days having convinced myself I was returning it. When I grabbed the 8 off the wireless charger the next morning I immediately realized I had made a mistake. The 8 now lives in a box in the closet.

I bought the 8+ instead of the X but then bought the X and did not like and went back to the 8+. After a few weeks it was back to the X for me. I know this is crazy but sometimes it takes another try.

Now I am very happy with the X, very happy indeed.

I’m in the same boat as you. Wasn’t too happy with the X, went back to an 8+. Now I’m back to an X and going to stick it through this time because I’m enjoying it more than the first time around.

My eyes do not see OLED panels very well. I see things along the sides of screens that aren't there (green/ pink hues down the edges). It sucks but that's why I'm not a fan of the X.

Beforehand... Why the hesitation with the X?

It was kind of a shock going from my 7+/8+ existing phone. Just did not seem right to me. Like I said it took me time to convert.

Agreed. I have a friend that says when looking at my X the screen is flickering at a high rate. It drives him nuts.

Note: not commenting on either side of debate. I find it strange (or super cool) that people see different things like that. Not doubting it because only the person seeing it knows, but it's almost like a super power. It's like seeing dead people. Tuned vision at certain frequencies. Perhaps I should have paid more attention in Biology or Physics classes.

I traded my 7 for a 7+ and did not like the size. Just too large for me. Got a good deal on an X so went with that. Amazing difference. Love the size.

If I liked the plus, I'm not sure what I'd prefer, but the large size didn't do it for me.

I wonder about stuff like this, too. There are other people here that have mentioned the same in a thread here.

I stare at my X screen and can not see a bit of the flashing he is talking about. we looked at the X screen in near darkness and he said it almost made him dizzy from the flashing so I do not know.

I am not sure if it is a gift or curse as he also says he gets head aches from some fluorescents that turn off and on at 60 cycles. I think the X is doing 120 cycles. I can detect, sometimes, the blinking of fluorescents by their effect if I move my hand and finger in front of my face it will make it look like multiple hands and fingers due to the flashing but 120 cycles is another story.

^^^^^ people who returned X and went back, of course this isn't going to work for all, but I think the phenomena you are experiencing is loss

in the absence of something you take for granted, maybe you see it in a different light?

Unfortunately my vision issue isn't a normal one I wear super strong contacts for distance so messes up my close vision. Not ready for bi-focals yet, passed on the mini-van too :). The setting for larger font on the X helped a little but using display zoom on the 8/8+ helped even more.

It was kind of a shock going from my 7+/8+ existing phone. Just did not seem right to me. Like I said it took me time to convert.

With all the leak rumors and videos of the X... I was so ready to commit!

The Plus designs was just getting too stale for my taste... I toyed around with Android (particularly Samsung) and I enjoy the screen to body ratio they provided. I even decided to forgo the iPhone 7 Plus and went with the Note 7, but then battery fiasco happen.

As much as I like Android... I prefer iOS, I’m heavily invested in as well. But for me, I’m excited for the form factor of the X... can’t wait for iOS 12!

I'll let you know.....

Returned my X because the display was too yellow/red with severe colour shift. It also caused me eye strain and headaches so OLED not for me I guess. For me it's like the screen shimmered with minor movements which I couldn't stop seeing.

Also I didn't want to persevere and join the panel lottery because I've seen alot of Xs now and they all have different displays, most terrible to my eye. A work colleague just received a great screen X with minimal blue shift and I was kinda jealous until I handled it because the metal band has sharp edges. Jeez....

Randomly ordered a Note 8 because I was feeling disappointed with Apple and thinking I wanted a change. "Yea screw you Apple and your buggy iOS 11"! I have enjoyed using my friends Note occasionally - great display, split screen apps, great build quality, spen, but I bottled it and cancelled the order. I've been with the iPhones for so long I just couldn't bring myself to cheat on it.

IPhone 8 plus ordered today so I can have a fresh battery, wireless charging and the display models instore had LCDs that looked crisper and brighter than my 7 plus. Wanted to sell my 7 plus sooner rather than later to recoup some funds. Plus the instant satisfaction of buying something new (yes yes it's not new, it's just a 6 plus for the 4th year).

I just prefer the plus design (width, screen ratio etc) as it's my little iPad. I realise it's not going to feel as fresh as owning the X but as that's a no go for me I think I'll happily use the 8 plus until Apple does a X plus LCD. Well until the next gadget turns my head....

The crisper and brighter 8plus in store vs your 7plus could be part of the displays just looking more pristine on average

This maybe true as I realise they use the same screen tech (apart from having true tone). But my 7 plus is still mint condition. Like seeing many variations of display quality on the X I may well have just seen fantastic 8 plus screens compared with my 7 plus.

What about people who ordered the 8, then returned it for the X, then returned the X back for another 8, then returned the 8 for the 8+, then returned the 8+ for the X again, then returned the X for two 8 pluses that you taped together for a double sided phone, then went to Cleveland but got homesick, then flew back home and mowed your lawn, then went to Olive Garden but they were out of breadsticks so you went home again and just ordered a pizza? Let’s get a thread going for all those people! Let’s get a thread going for every possible combination of scenarios involving the iPhone 8/+ and the iPhone X under the sun! Let’s keep making new threads with variations of the exact same discussion so that all other discussions that aren’t the same get shoved to the 2nd and 3rd pages of the forum so that most people won’t see them and we can focus on the important topic of 8 vs X vs 8+ vs 8 vs X! Let’s talk about the differences between these phones every day all day, forever and ever and ever and ever! And ever! Did I mention forever?

I went back from X to the 8 only to go back to the X after 1 week and I LOVE it. Also I believe the new X I got is better in terms of screen (old one shifted colors in certain angles, this one does not), and FaceID (old one did not recognize me while flat on surface, new one does). Regardless, I am very happy with the X. Main reason I went back was the weight that bothered me at first, mainly because I also carry a 6 for work and it felt much lighter, however I am totally ok with it now.
