No matter what, it would have been wrong.

From an newspaper article in my State.

""It's Third Reich tactics," said attorney Dennis Muchnicki, Bittner's partner.
He said Trump's new order allows immigration officials to detain nearly anyone they encounter. People could be detained for driving without a license, using a fake Social Security number to get a job, or receiving welfare benefits.""

You know breaking another law.

The documents listed on the I-9 form, which all business should ask for of anyone working regardless of citizenship.

    https://www.uscis.gov/i-9

The issue is this pizza ship went above and beyond to discriminate.

    It sounds more like lazyness/incompetence.

You don't need to ask for stuff to prove you can work if you are a citizen.
Obviously you still need to prove you are a citizen because you can't tell that by sight.

The problem seems to be that they specifically requested a green card, which not all non-citizen residents would have:

"Under the law, all workers — including non-U.S. citizens — must be allowed to choose whichever valid documentation they want to present from lists of acceptable documents to prove their work authorization. It is unlawful for an employer to limit an employee’s choice of documentation because of their citizenship, immigration status or national origin."

They got in trouble for demanding a green card from the immigrant and not demanding any proof from a guy who claimed to be a citizen. The white guy say he's a citizen. Seems legit. The brown guy says he's here legally and is allowed to work in the US. Sounds suspicious. Your papers, please.

    basically.

want to check paperwork....do it 100% across the board. This should not be a hardship for people to have papers in a nice location for fast retrieval. This should be in place to start really. Granted I am biased, served in the military and now a civilian working for the military...the paperwork game old hat. whole package comes along from easy storage. 2 forms of ID and the military issue ID may not count. All good, have lots of papers. So does my son. Who is a dual citizen. Ask for his passport and I can go which one, US or Japanese?

My fun part is license renewal in the states. I need some official mail to address. I get a bill diverted for 1 month to my brothers place as I tired of fighting with DMV employees who do not grasp I work and live overseas and don't actually live in the states. So I play that game and make paper happen.

From the article in the OP:
    /thread

BTW the green card is just one valid form of work authorization in the United States.

<edit> Damnit, @BeeGood beat me to it.

It's no joke. It's an actual quote pulled from the article.
