It took three days for my 12” 2017 MacBook and my 2017 13” mbp I got back the very next day! The Apple Authorized Service Provider I used got the parts overnight for the mbp and did a great job on both my my keyboard replacements. I’ve been reading things about it taking some people weeks which surprises me because both of mine were done so fast.

i took mine in last tuesday and the rep quoted 3-5 days however it is still “under repair.” ive called the apple store a few times but they said that there is nothing they can do to speed up the process, which sounds like BS. over a week for a keyboard replacement seems ridiculous to me and i’m quite frustrated.

Thats disappointing. The Apple Authorized Service Provider I took mine to had one done in three days and one done the next. I bet it’s cause they aren’t nearly as busy. If it’s any solace you’ll be happy with the replacement. My new one is great.

I'm not minimizing your frustration, and I'm not making excuses for Apple, but it may be less about them taking over a week to work on your machine and more likely that your machine in a queue and they're experiencing heavier then usual repair volume

I dropped off my 2017 15" MBP at the Palo Alto Apple Store last Wednesday (7/18) for H key not working. Genius told me 5 - 7 days instead of the usual 3 - 5 days. Today's been a week so we'll see if I hear anything from them today.

i’m sure that’s exactly what is happening. it’s just annoying because had i known it would have taken more than 8 days (as of today, still no updates), I would have made other arrangements. I currently do not have another laptop to work on. If apple doesn’t finish the repair by tomorrow evening, i most likely won’t get it back until monday (from my understanding the repair centers don’t work on weekends, and it takes a couple business days for the laptop to ship back). If i get it monday, it will have been almost two weeks (crazy!)! If apple knows their customers will be without laptops for this long, they should offer replacement laptops while they’re being repaired, especially because this problem is fully caused by Apple’s awful keyboards!

oh, to add to my frustration, one rep i chatted with told me that this delay in repair was due to “weather”....

Two out of two computers needed the keyboards replaced and you are happy about it?

Yeah, unlike most companies, you'd have to fight to get the product repaired, then you'd be lucky if they paid postage for you to ship it in and get it fixed in 3 weeks. Pretty obvious to me why the poster is happy. Being able to fix a product in a short period of time, if it needs fixing, is one reason why I give Apple my $.

Apple store said it would take 4 days, they called me at 9:00 am on day 3 to tell me it was done. They had to order the parts.

So what exactly are they doing? I need to take mine I for the space bar and it’s going to be dumb if they just take the key off and clean?!

Help me out!

They took the entire top case off of mine and replaced the entire keyboard and trackpad I believe.

Mine took exactly a week to have the keyboard repaired for the B key repeating and other inconsistent keys. My only complaint is Apple's online tracking for device repair is poor at best. It sat at "Diagnosis in Progress" the entire time until I received the notice saying it was on the way back. I had to call Apple to confirm the laptop was even being worked on.

Satisfied customer here. They also replaced the bottom case for some reason which is a nice surprise.

I'm glad your experience was good. My new keyboard is much smoother and softer.

I had to replace it twice, took me around a week in SF both times. Moral of the story: either move to Windows (where you can replace your own keyboard in a day) or have at least two MacBooks just in case. Apple customer service for professionals is a joke, not only because it takes them a week to repair the keyboard but also cause they designed the keyboard to be the most unrepairable keyboard ever.

Does the problem seem to be fixed?

Yes, in fact my keyboard is much softer. I am wondering if I got a 2018 keyboard, but I think Apple made an announcement debunking those rumors. Love the keyboard they put on regardless though.
