what format would one format their firewire drive with for use with both pcs and macs? it came as fat-32...

i'm asking for a friend so if i need more details let me know. else, thanks in advance.

ps. the mac uses os x... not sure which version of windows he's running... probably 2000 or xp....

it needs to be formatted as FAT32

NTFS is a newer file system for windows BUT WILL NOT WORK in OSX

the only limitation of FAT32 i can think of that really matters is that the largest partition can only be 32gb

hmm i didnt know fat 32 will show up in os x, thats interesting. i always format mine as hfs+ and i use macdrive on my pc, its great.

yeah your best bet is to use HFS+ and PC software. I know osx can read HFS+ partitions and pretty well but the problem exist if you want to boot into osx then the whole drive must be hFS+. Also depending on if you have a netowrk, i have sharepoints setup so i can easily see my backup hardrive on my network and then samba reads the HFS+ volume

what is this pc software you talk of???
im curious, id rather format this external drive i use for both platforms as HFS+ instead of FAT32

nice software, but i cant install this on every pc i use my drive with
