None. I do wish, however, that they could get into some sort of trouble for clearly mislabeling their product as fair and balanced news reporting. Don't most companies get sued for false advertising?

Yeah but it's minimal. It's just like car dealerships advertising they have, for example, Tahoes for $19,800. Then you show up and they say, "oh we just sold all those but we do have this fully loaded one for $48,000 and we can get you financed on the spot." If anyone even bothers to do so they can get fined if they can prove that they false advertised but the business it creates outweighs the small fine they would pay.

It's not really. The bar for news is so low, fair and balanced means about as much as 'all natural' on food products. If there were standards, the main news networks would call their American products 'news entertainment.'

Everyone needs to call them out on their misleading "news" and not become complacent.

No, it's not minimal. They claim to be news, they claim to be fair and balanced, and they claim to offer the service of explaining the days events to their viewers.

What they are, in fact, is nothing more than a partisan advertising wing of the far right wing, and somehow they avoid the restrictions on campaign finance.

There is nothing redeeming about FoxNews other than they hire pretty girls to read the drivel they write.

Not to mention that one of the largest shareholders of News Corp. happens to be a Saudi who practices that "garbage religion" known as Islam.

Yet FOXNews happily hosts talker after talker who says how bad Islam is. And they somehow all forget to mention that the hand that feeds them has more terrorist ties than Obama.

That's because it sells to the great unwashed, and the Infidels provide the money to be used towards their own destruction.

What classifies as "news"? I can report anything and call it news. The Daily Show reports on the news so does that make it a legit news program?

Well, Jon and his writers never fail to have an "opinion" of items of interest.

I guess it's subjective, if you want your "news" without knives sticking in it.

Everyone is going to report the news with their slant on it, I don't think any media outlet gives the straight news without bias.

    More's the pity.

No law. But journalistic integrity just took another kick in the nuts.

No offense -- and this is partially in response to ufcgrad as well -- but the fact that you can ask that question demonstrates how far the news has fallen.

The news was never completely free from bias, but it used to be a relatively staid, serious business which held itself to high standards. That was back in the Edward R. Murrow/Huntley-Brinkley days, before the networks started thinking of news as just another form of entertainment, and started hiring entertainment-minded people instead of journalists to run the things.

What Fox does is a joke. This is them saying, "We don't even care to try to look unbiased now. Screw our slogan."

So, you don't think other news organizations' parent companies donate to political candidates or parties?

Some of you apparently missed the memo:

The Fairness Doctrine was killed off during Reagan's tenure...

We used to actually do a little thing called journalism where stories were checked, verified, and uncovered further. I guess that went the way of the Dodo when they all figured out you can just make the stories instead of reporting on actually significant events.

Note how the mosque story has dominated the news cycle for almost a week now.

I feel like sometimes Uncle Rupert doesn't even know or care what the hell is going on in his station until he gets called out in some direct public way.
