France votes (on a Sunday!) for the first time since the Paris attacks. We should see the results about the same time Obama is giving his Oval Office speech. It will be interesting to see if they stick with the status quo or vote for anti-EU, anti-immigration parties like the FN.

Dark times ahead for Europe in general I fear. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better. Heads down and wait for the storm of the fear-mongering far-right to pass.

The French Left can only blame itself for its sense of entitlement, and self-satisfaction that led its leaders to blatantly ignore the day to day problems of their fellow citizens. Too many years expecting people to vote them just because they were the default alternative to the RPR-UMP-R, while in denial... A great example that the two-party system was rotten.

But yes, heads down (like you're gonna have a choice anyway!) and wait until the FN ducks up (and given their non-existent project beyond a few populist leitmotivs, it shouldn't take long).

Bad news for the EU as well: the FN has been financed by Russia.

    Sarkozy's party has 27.2%. It's Hollande's party that's 22.7%.

But multiculturalism makes people more tolerant... right?

France doesn't practice multiculturalism it practices assimilation. Unfortunately both are predicated on the assumption that humans aren't utterly selfish, tribal-minded idiots when working in groups. In times of economic or social strife the people who are noticeably different suffer first as scapegoats. It's not surprising when de Gaulle made up (yes almost entirely) the Gauls as common ancestors of all French people when France has only recently been one entity, there is no such thing as a "real" French person.

France already is a fascist state, full of snooty atheists who talk funny.

They don't value freedom of religion and harrassed the muslims, by not letting the womefolks wear their headtowels.

Have no intention on ever visiting their again.

I don't care what they do.

You make one of the best and forgotten points, the FN has very few policies out side the anti immigration stand points.

Yes they are anti EU, but France certainly would suffer economically out side the EU. The FN are also not a great friend of the USA/UK, I could see a move to the countries of the old East Block.

In fact their whole economic policy is just a idea to make France great again, real plans to tackle the deep seated problems of the French economy are totally lacking.

The FN like the PVV received funds from Russia.

Why should people be able to walk around in public places with their faces completely hidden from view? The law is not specific to the burqa. It applies to anything that conceals your face in a public place.

"Fascist". It seems you like to throw around words without meaning.

It is when you are on public property. Not only is it a security risk but walking around without being able to identify people by face hinders social communication.

Feel free to cover as much or of little of your face on private property.

I'm actually hoping the US follows suit here and bans hoodies. Makes no sense, especially in the summer when it's 80 degrees out.

So you want to make laws that tell others how to dress...?

I think my choice of the word "fascist" was quite fitting ...

No. In this respect, it's no different to telling people how to drive.

It's not like you're telling people what colours they are allowed to wear. It's simply informing them that in public places they are not permitted to conceal their faces.

You should know a lot about fascists, being that you have a photo of one as your avatar.

I'm honestly surprised at you here.

Seriously? A human being doesn't have the right to cover their own face in public? What kind of nonsense is this?

But you are a supporter of a man who wishes to ban a whole religion from travelling to the USA.

Yea, **** 'em! We should go back to only importing Western EU Christians, or at least prioritizing them via legal immigration (especially if they're doctors).

I believe that people like you should have their own country (since we lack other planets for now), where only the regime is allowed to have guns, they have laws on who has to cover what bodypart and you can be worried about the weather and pass laws that make you feel safe.

Wait ... why don't you become a frenchman?

There is no constitutional right that guarantees free passage of non-US citizens to the US.
