I went to the Apple store in Costa Mesa last night (great store, easy to access... unlike Brea where you have to walk a mile through a mall to get to it). They only had 16GB phones in stock.

Sort of shocking to me since they make the damned things and the phone isn't "new" anymore.

I would of assumed that the OC and all their "money" would be getting the 16gb, odd to see that over there the low-end model is most popular:rolleyes:

Yea most ATT stores have them as well. I just suggested Fashion Island because everytime I go they have some. Even the 2nd day when the iphone was released, I was able to nab an iphone without waiting in line.... rich people don't wait in line apparently.

Nearly all California Apple stores out of 8GB stock

Same here in the Bay Area. None at Palo Alto, Stanford, or Valley Fair.

When I looked at availability last night, there was only one store in California which claimed to have 8GB stock.

Does this mean an upgrade/change is imminent?

Maybe they are using the 8GB chips for the new iPod Nano's?

The one of Bear is South Coast Plaza, the one in Newport Beach is Fashion Island Apple. Both are cool.

 Oh please! And stop calling it "the" OC. It's Orange County.

majordude, AT&T in Aliso Viejo on Aliso Creek road claims to have 8gb in stock. It's a bit of a trek from CM but if you take the 405 to the 73 and exit Glenwood Drive you'll be just up the hill from there. Take a right and then another right into the Ralphs parking lot.

Just checked the inventory system at apple.com, it does appear that there are more stores sold out of the 8GB models than the others. Although, this inventory system was criticized as not very reliable back in July, I think the bugs are mostly worked out. My guess, the 8GB will be dropped soon and a 32GB model will come into the picture.......

Hmmm. Then I've been to Fashion Island. I'm sure I can't even afford to park there so no big loss!
