"After all, it’s hard to walk around tethered to merchandise made by your father’s most famous competitor.

Still, Gates acknowledges the inevitable lure of forbidden fruit. “Every now and then I look at my friends and say, ‘Ooh, I wouldn’t mind having that iPhone.’”

Sure, stick'em with a Zune. On second thought..... they'll be 18 soon enough.

Seems altogether harsh. However, I suppose giving in and allowing them, or Bill, for that matter, to have an iPhone or iPod, would be rubbing lots of salt into an very sensitive, non-innovative wound. This has apparently haunted and taunted him on a daily basis, and will continue to do so without the aid of blinders.

Well it is probably not a news story as such although it is an interview with Mrs Bill Gates and it does talk about the Gates Family not being allowed to own iPods or iPhones which is so ironic that I thought it was worth posting.

    Wikipedia definition of "irony/ironic"

The definition of irony, in the simplest form, is the difference between what someone would reasonably expect to happen and what actually does. Meaning that something that happens that you would not ever reasonably expect to happen is considered irony.

So, by you thinking that it's so ironic Bill Gates restricts his family from owning iPods, means that you expected him to allow them to own iPods. Where you would get that expectation I can't figure out.

Personally I'm not suprised that Bill Gates doesn't allow his family to own iPods, since his company makes Zunes. However, if Steve Jobs didn't allow HIS family to own iPods...THAT would be ironic.

Unless of course you're thinking of all the times where Bill and his cronies talk about giving people "choice" (which is their way of saying they're mad that Apple beat them at something and won't let them play in the sandbox) and then not letting his kids have their choice of music player...THAT is somewhat ironic.
