Hi all,

Installed iOS 11 DP1 on my iPad Pro 9.7". So far, so good. No major problems yet.
However, there is one thing I can't figure out. For some reason, the "geofencing" location indicator ("hollow" icon) is always on. In location settings, there's no indication which app or service is using geofencing.
Anyone seeing the same? Bug, maybe? Anyone found a solution yet?
No big issue, just something I noticed and am curious about.

In iOS 11 is there still a "System Services" section listed in Settings > Privacy > Location Services? It might be a system thing.

Yes, but nothing that shows anything using geolocation. If I remember correctly, system services that use geofencing would show a hollow icon on the settings page you mentioned in previous versions of iOS.

If you have app's allowed to check location it will show. Its empty because nothing is checking at the moment. Once it does the icon will be solid. You would need to turn off location services in whole or one at a time until all say never.

So is this a change from previous iOS versions? Usually, when nothing checked for location, there would be no icon at all. Not even an empty one. Here's the description for the different location icons that's still present in iOS 11:

I have the same issue now that iOS 11 is officially out and the problem lies with 3 system location services: motion calibration & distance; wi-fi networking; and compass calibration. I had to turn all three off because they would just cause the hollow arrow to stay always on (after successfully finding location with a solid arrow), making it look like permanent geofencing even though it's not. I wish it behaved like before because I can no longer use these location services if they always remain in the status bar. Any solution would be appreciated. Thanks.
