The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper reported that the German government is going to advise citizens to stockpile 10 days worth of food and water. Do you think it's fear mongering by the newspaper, common sense, or is the German government getting concerned ?

I think if you need to stockpile a year of supplies, it's all over for you anyways :(.

It's just common sense. Although 10 days may be a bit much. Look t the power outage that took out much of the East coast some years back. **** can hapen.

Should be common sense, but common sense isn't so common these days. The thin veil of civility is three days away from eroding. Hurricane Katrina should have been a wake up call to all Americans, that no, the government cannot and will not be able to protect/provide for you

there should be water & rice/beans in storage to keep you afloat for at least 2 weeks, rotating said water every month or so.

Do you follow this plan ?

I got tired of the outages so I got a generator. I haven't had to use it much but I appreciated it when I did.

ok, I'll bite, who the hell knows
    1. the value of gold if SHTF
    2. how do you give "change" in said circumstances?

I was, need to stock back up. it does get tiring working the "rotation" .

In the UK I have been told to always have 14 days worth of medicine at hand (without which I'd be in serious shape). I always wondered what they thought was going to happen...

Anyway, I think it makes sense to have a small stockpile of food, but then you have to be careful not to waste it by letting it go out of date or spoil. I do have water filters and a Kelly Kettle for camping, but they'd do in a pinch if we lose power and water supply due to storms.

I bought these because they have valuable milk chocolate hidden inside. Double win!

Are you talking about lead in the water for the lawyers and politicians? I don't think it'll work, it lowers the IQ, but they don't have much IQ to begin with :D

    Concerned about what?

As a long-time resident of California, we're regularly reminded to have a store of food and water due to earthquakes.

We keep some rations and survival supplies in the house. Nothing major, but enough to support us if there is an issue. I was on the east coast when that storm neutralized the DC area. Having that in the house really helps to avoid trying to find a place open in a nasty storm. For terrorism? Yeah, it could be used for that too and we use some of it for when we hike or camp.

The article mentioned in case of attacks. Is the government now concerned how the refuges will act ?
