I have an old PC running Windows XP, and it doesn't have a wifi card so it can't access our connection in my house.

Is it possible to tether the iPod Touch (1st generation) to the PC to get internet through the iPod's wifi?

Unfortunately I don't believe you can, with the iPod Touch 1, or 2G.
The 2G has more hope because it has a bluetooth chip in it (which will be enabled in 3.0) and perhaps if you jailbreak it...

But the short answer is no, I don't believe so.

No. Not unless someone makes an App for it.

There are similar Apps for the iPhone, but that uses the 3G signal and 'shares' it with your computer as a normal wireless internet connection. This is known as Tethering, and will be included in the 3.0 software update.
