Is Apple really such a pain in the arse as it states it can be on the iPod service pages? There, it says it may refuse to repair iPods that are out of warranty, either because the warrenty has expired, or because the iPod has been abused by any means. Does Apple really do so, or do they call you to ask if you want to have your iPod repaired at a certain cost?
My iPod fell last week and something really awful happened. It only fell from a meter height, on carpet, but it fell into pieces. The metal bottom came off from the plastic top and the hard drive jumped out. Really weird. I immediately put it back together. It worked, if nog very well. So I reset my iPod, only to see the folder icon with an exclamation mark over it. Even weirder. I don't know if warranty coveres such damage, but even if it doesn't, I really want to have my iPod repaired.
Does anybody have any first or second hand experience with getting an iPod repaired that might have been or simply was out of warranty? Did Apple do a free repair? Did they send it back, unrepaired? Did you, in that case, have to pay the shipping yourself? Did you pay for the repair?
I have already sent in the iPod service request form and expect to have all the stuff in which to send it back to Apple this week. Should I phone Apple Support to specifically ask for a repair, even if my iPod turns out to be out of warranty? Or will they repair it, no matter what, and charge me later? Actually, I'd rather have the latter than the former; sure I want to pay for a repair, as long as my iPod will work again.
Thanks for any input...
