Uh, I'm not too bright. Just figured out that one need not use the regular version of Gmail on the iPT -- the mobile version is at: http://gmail.com. Much better. This inspired me to find a few other prominent sites that have mobile versions. All of these do:

Google
New York Times
Facebook
USA Today

I'm not gonna wrangle up all the addresses, but they're easy to find. I suspect in the near future any site worth its salt will have a mobile version, but right now it's far from compulsory. Any other really prominent examples?

Yeah, standalone apps/shortcuts in the main menu are nice, but as long as you're connected to the internet it isn't hard to just do what you need through Safari. Here's a few I have handy:

http://www.itouchmap.com/ - Maps
http://reader.mac.com/ - RSS Reader
https://iphone.beejive.com/ - Chat

Of course I'd still rather have an actual IM and Mail client, but these work nicely until we get to the point where we can put whatever we want on it.

I have to say, the one i'm most impressed with is http://www.seeqpod.com/ on the iphone/touch. That seems to be frikken sweet.

note: I'm ASSUMING it works fine on the touch, as TNT are being slack and won't deliver it for another 24 hours (apparently they are "too busy") i'm forced to try these sites out using iPhoney
