Good app for monitoring temps fans etc

    Check out iStat Pro. It's a widget that will give you all the info you could want.

    Love iStat Pro. Worth the money, monitors everything about your Mac.

    smcFanControl reports the temps but it also allows you to alter the speed, i.e., make them faster to cool your mac.

    If you follow the link on that page to the developer's site you find that some users have an issue with the program running under 64 bit SL. Then again the page is dated 2009 or so - has there been any update since then? Anybody running smcfancontrol in 64 bit mode & SL? 10.6.6 on a Mac mini here. Lastly - I thought smc was a paid program or is it free now?

    I use smcFanControl from 2009, the 2.2.2 version on my MBP running SL no problems. It's 32bit, just uses 5MB to run and you can even set custom left/right fan speeds.
