Exchange indicates Trump admin will send legal pot up in smoke.

As with so many other issues, Trump could upend this fragile status-quo. An exchange with Utah Sen. Mike Lee revealed Sen. Jeff Sessions attitude towards the situation: The Department of Justice should not look the other way when states like Colorado, California and Washington decriminalize marijuana.

It's going to be very interesting. It could lead to increased tensions. And what about medical marijuana that is helping children with seizures? Eliminate their healthcare AND their medicine? Really?

This doesn't end well if they do that.

Your link goes to a live blog or something and the first story is about Comey. Sessions also said "Congress should pass a law" if there is support to end pot prohibition.

I am against legalization, but this is a state issue. Feds should stay away from it.

Sorry that's the only link available.

It is naive to think THIS congress would EVER pass such a law.

Not doubting your link, just that it is wonky. Could be Safari on my iPad.

I'm for opening up a legal means for marijuana for of age adults. Not a user don't know any users doesn't effect me in anyway.

Ironic a guy with a dead head avatar brings up the issue. ;)

I don't smoke weed but I think it's totally stupid for states to be overridden by the federal government here

Well according to the federal government and SCOTUS everything is a federal issue via the Commerce Clause.

If only some genius out there had, over a year ago, repeatedly mocked Democrats/Liberals/Progressives for blindly supporting over-empowerment of the executive branch because they happened to like the guy heading it up, not looking past the tip of their nose.

Alas, Democrats/Liberals/Progressives will soon be begging for a "do-nothing congress."

I'm a proponent of states' rights when they expand rights.

It's when states try to restrict rights more tightly than federal (or established) law, then I have a problem with it.

I'm poking fun. Aren't dead heads the whole reason for the 420 thing? Or am I believing in an urban myth?

I thought Trump was all for states making their own decisions on so many things.

This will definitely not sit will for those states that have passed the laws already and those working to get them passed.

And quite honestly, given Trump's presidency - you'd think he'd be more in favor of people finding ways to find their zen ;)

Current federal law, I believe, says that any possession of marijuana, recreational or medical, is a crime. Sessions is a law and order guy and very anti-marijuana, and as AG, he would enforce that provision, although Holder and Lynch decided not to. I think you may be right that he will encounter local resistance about this. My own view is that there are bigger problems to work on, for example illicit opioid drugs, heroin, etc. If I were AG, I'd pursue the hard stuff first, the stuff that can cause real problems and deaths, and leave the marijuana as a lower priority.

Congress could of course fix this by passing a law decriminalizing medical uses, or something to that effect. Not sure how much traction that would get in the new Congress though.

That's an urban myth. The term 420 came from 3 or 4 UC Berkeley students and had nothing to do with Grateful Dead.
