Oh boy- well, just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, the GOP wastes your time and money again. Conservatives, if you want to be taken seriously, this kind of s*** has to stop.

Hey Boner- if no federal money was used, you don't get to say what goes in the museum. ****ing POS.

Folks, if you're a Boner constituent, write him and tell him to **** off. Freedom of speech is in the Constitution.

Nice little prelude for the next two years. With any luck they'll blow the rest of the moderate support base away and 2012 will see all these controlling whackjobs disappear from US politics forever.

GOP members really need to rein these people in or 2008 will seem like a good result compared to the hit they'll be taking next time round. There's only so much of this **** the average US voter will take before they say enough is enough.

So far, it's just what I predicted. These morons do not care about the country or doing what's right. They want to nitpick and waste our time and money. I'm sick of this s***, and if the GOP wants any respect, they'll stop this crap now. Otherwise, 4 more years for Obama.

In other words, any effort to extend unemployment or do ANYTHING will be blocked unless they get the tax cut legislation. Oh, and don't forget, they won't compromise on tax cuts legislation. They get what they want, or the Democrats get NOTHING.

You know, Republicans, the best way to reduce the deficit would to just raise taxes 3% on people making more than $250,000. Something they'd hardly feel and would go a long way for the country. Ending a museum exhibit is a waste of your time.

    Outrageous use of taxpayer money...

Interesting as well that we never seem to get any conservative members in here to comment on things like this. They get very quiet when things like this come up. Wonder why?

I actually thought the "crucifix with ants crawling on it" was pretty interesting and strangely thought provoking. Maybe some people were offended because of the coming holiday, but I feel a disconnect between this piece and Christmas being completely unrelated.

Who is to say what art is?

I don't know, maybe a museum. If only there was a national museum that could make these decisions for me and exhibit materials I would otherwise never know about or go see... sigh...

    :D

(Obeygiant - I hope you don't think I'm responding to you directly, I just thought the question was funny and needed a silly answer).

John Boehner and Eric Cantor, and don't you feel better to finally know whose job it is?

Everyone knows this is the only "real" art. Maybe Michelangelo also. Wait, no, his art is pornography.

Which would seem to disprove the old cliché "Good taste is the death of art".

It was holy until they heard he was gay, and now they can only think of this as metaphorical:

It also makes it less easy to use the "appreciation of great art" excuse to subvert having noticed that the David is pretty hot.

If no taxpayer money is being used then I see absolutely no issue with it being there.

That being said whomever thinks ants crawling on a cross or gay naked brothers kissing is art, well... meh good luck to 'em.

From a friend of mine who happens to be an artist, art is 1) whatever is popular and/or 2) whatever an art authority (another artist, an art "expert", etc.) deems to be art.

As long as it's not coming out of the public purse, I don't much care one way or another.

The art doesn't sound particularly appealing to me, but I am not one for shock and awe pieces.

There's a funny thing about how art sounds when described: you can't tell a damned thing about it.

I was a teenager in the rural South, with no Internet to be had, when the furor over Serrano's Piss Christ arose. It was described to me as hateful pornography with no redeeming value, produced with taxpayer dollars, and intending nothing but to offend good Christians by defiling their savior.

It wasn't until many years later, quite recently in fact, that I first actually saw the work, and was surprised to find I was not looking at a cheap picture of a crucifix thrown into a filthy toilet, perhaps with The Simpsons' Nelson Muntz pasted in pointing and laughing at the stupid, stupid Jesus people, but instead a very well-done treatment that provokes both thought and emotional response.

It's like if I said, "Jews, Catholics and Protestants believe different things, and somehow describing representatives of these three faiths having a drink together is meant to contrast those beliefs" and expected you to laugh.

This is somehow the land of the free?

We can't even have artistic freedom?

I think perhaps you should now acknowledge the fact that some have, and fairly.
