GT Racing - hard to drive?

I find the normal dry track races just fine - easy enough to pick your racing line. But the rain, snow and rally stages, where the frame rate takes too big a hit are a bit of a nightmare. Rain isn't too bad but the oversteer in rally mode is not right! Maybe I can tweak it with car setups but not investigated this yet.
What were you struggling with?
I drive from in cockpit view as I have always found that easier to know where the car is pointing. I always overcorrect with outside camera behind the car so its more like sailing than driving.
I prefer the first person view in any game if there's the option though
