When I woke up this morning and looked at my phone half of my apps had disappeared, even phone, messages and settings apps are gone. Running iOS11 dev beta. Has anyone else experienced this? What’s the best way to fix it?

Setting wouldn’t come up, I’m trying iTunes update or restore. No more betas for me

This!! I don't understand why people do this. It's called beta for a reason.

Most non-dev people do it because they want to try bleeding edge features and see what they look like. And they do it because *usually* apps tend not do disappear completely, and because yes, there are bugs, but they're not that critical that you're completely unable to use your phone (at least, that's the way it has been so far for me with iOS and macOS betas).

Every once in a while a completely crippling bug pops up and then you have to downgrade. Tough luck, it's not the end of the world. But please stop being condescending to those people who just want to try out new things. Not everyone can afford the luxury of having 2 phones, but they still want to try betas.

The thread starter asked for advice. That's what these forums are for, among other things, so it's perfectly legit.

Why did it require a "rant" & how was I being condescending? You're trying to put words in my mouth.

I knew there was a bit of a risk which is why I waited to hear feedback before I did it. I expected minor issues but nothing like this. I think the issue is more around my phone being 3 years old and starting to die, just wanted it to hold out until September ☹️

I have seen this issue three times in last month or so. First time was on iOS 10.3.3... I thought I was related to beta so I had to completely restore device to go back to 10.3.2. Then I got the error two more times on 10.3.2 which non beta.... I am not sure what causes it, but the last time I saw it happen I was holding phone and it was in process of updating apps. It froze and auto rebooted itself and when it came back on all apps including stock apps were gone. There was no way to access anything and the home screens were blank. When I called the device it didn't ring, but my Apple Watch did ring... not sure what's going on, so I have been doing iTunes Backups every 3 days now just in case it happens again
[doublepost=1500252779][/doublepost]My first guess was the home screen springboard app is getting corrupted somehow and that is why all apps including stock ones disappear from home screen and search. I will keep an eye on it and report back if happens again, but it seems like even if springboard was corrupted the dialer should at least show when a call comes in, but it doesn't... may be some larger system issue that can only be fixed by a complete restore and restore from backup.

Or, when possible, replace the device. At least NAND chips. This issue is big enough to ask Apple for a replacement.

Happened to me too. But when I tried to restore to 10.3.2, it bricked and got stuck in reboot loop.

The phone is with Apple now.

I tought of that too (the offload setting) but in this specific case if it offloaded the Settings app there's a serious bug somewhere :p

Have you checked how much storage you have. Perhaps you are almost out and there's a bug that is deleting things to make room to function

Finally, some common sense.

I have 7+ 256GB on non-beta 103.2 with 131GB free, so I don't think it is storage related. I do have a lot of apps installed though... Seems to be related to when the App store is applying updates to already installed apps and not new downloads.

Here's a thread on the Apple Developer forums, with two users (including me) experiencing the same problem:

"The end is nigh". Sorry couldn't help recall wwdc 2017 opening video.

I've noticed over large updates on WiFi lately on production iOS there are huge delays on apps updating (150Mb+ over non congested 10Mb download). I've ha stop pause and update again. Wonder how many more have brought their phones into stores that made Apple more aware of this. 3 models I've seen my experience on: 5S/6S/7.

I wish Apple would add code to betas that automatically brick the device if it was someone’s primary one. The number of forum posts would go way down.
