I have an issue whereby Handbrake will crash my Mac frequently. It's been happening on High Sierra and I don't recall it being an issue before the update. My Mac will crash to a white screen or crash and reboot itself, and Handbrake is the only common factor. When Handbrake is inactive, everything is stable as a rock.

I'm on 10.13.3 now, and it just crashed again (twice) today. Even if it doesn't take down the whole thing, I'll often get prolonged bouts of spinning beachball when Handbrake is processing a file.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions/ideas?

Thanks!

Have you tried removing Handbrake and installing it again? What is the version number of Handbrake?

I'm running 1.0.7, which is the latest official release (i.e. not a nightly build). I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling it, and see if that kills the beast at Tanagra.

That's the same build I'm running, and I don't have any trouble. You haven't upgraded your RAM or anything recently have you?

Nope. The last hardware upgrades were about two years ago (swapped out the old HDD for an after-market fusion drive) and this issue has been since the High Sierra update.

Same issue with another user account? Check the logs via console and look for kernel extensions or frameworks used at the time of crash.

I've had similar issues with my late 2012 iMac, it has Fusion and 32Gb of RAM, which has not changed since I got it new. Basically some times it will crash right near the end of converting a file, doesn't seem to matter what type and its random. Will work fine for weeks, converting files all day long then just crash for no reason.

Preview button CRASH!

But a new issue has just come up after I updated to the latest Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.4. Click the 'Preview' button to bring up the video image and it crashes. Again it doesn't matter the type of file or if you have not opened anything. But don't touch the preview and it seems to work, just converted an MP4 and it plays fine at the size I expected.

Are there any ones good alternate programs to use that work better?

Are you monitoring the temperature of your computer during video processing of Handbrake?

Been testing the '20180331190559-70667ab-master' today and it seems to work just fine, at least it doesn't crash and must say has a better layout that 1.0.7.

Googling for those terms brought me here: Video Encoding Crash High Sierra. I am running an iMac 18,1 and I am using AviDemux 2.7.2. for cutting and then do the encoding either in AviDemux or as batch in Handbrake.

Four weeks ago the system suddenly became unstable while working with videos. No matter if I encode or decode, no matter if I just skip thru the video, it suddenly crashes. But then for hours everything works without any issues.

What I see so far is, that it only occurs with videos. I measured temperatur with Intel Gadget, which in highest peeks sometimes gets up to 75degrees celsius. But that's it.

Any hints? What to look for?
