harman kardon go play doesn't work

so my cousin had this device for a long time and never used it, so he gave it to me to try. i set it up and my ipod touch is docked and all, but nothing plays. the power LED on top remains orange (not green), which i think means something's wrong, as green probably is the all clear signal. my remote controller works to navigate and play and pause songs, as i see the songs cycling on my ipod's screen, but no sound comes out.

any ideas?
