Has anyone tried the new Starbucks "Chantico?"

Starbucks has this new drink Chantico that they’re calling “drinking chocolate.” It’s basically a hot chocolate, except instead of cocoa powder, it’s made with cocoa butter. It supposedly tastes like a melted Hershey’s bar – extremely rich, extremely chocolaty.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had tried it yet, or if anyone plans to. I’m heading over to Starbucks in about an hour to try it for the first time. :D

Sounds good. I'm about to go to Starbucks a bit later on today. Maybe I'll give it a whirl :p Sure does sound yummy.

I tried it for the first time this afternoon, as a matter of fact. It did taste good -- basically, like the dregs from a regular mug of hot chocolate -- but I don't think it was worth the $2.65 for that tiny six ounce cup.

Okay, so yeah, I just had the Chantico. It is REALLY good -- not as rich as a melted Hershey's bar -- but definetely richer than any other hot chocolate I've ever had.

It didn't taste like 21 grams of fat, but, umm ... I guess it has 21 grams of fat. That's okay, extra long workout tonight. :D

I agree w/Lyle though -- $2.65 is way too expensive for a 6 oz. cup, especially when you consider that the 12 oz. regular hot chocolate is $2.20.

Oh ya -- the dipping cookie is really cool. It's a thin, wafer like tube that expands dramatically when you dip it in the Chantico. Like, it goes from a thin tube to a big fat clogged tube ... not unlike your arteries, perhaps!

I had it last week for the first time! And I loved it. Try it in the "tall" size cup with lots of whipped cream (yummy) or with a shot of espresso! Even better.

Well I had one last night. It is quite good actaully, but a little too good. It's very rich. Probably wouldn't have one as often as I would normal coffe at Starbucks. But good nonetheless.

Be kinda nice if they gave you some more of these tube cookies though.

How is that pronounced? "shan-ticco"?

Yea I think you got it close.

Shan - teco

The "Shan" sounds like the name "Sean" or "Shawn" and "teco" has the "e" sounding like an "e" as in "Email" and the "c" sounds like the "c" in "Cat" and the "o" also sounds like an "o" as in "Oatmeal"

Starbucks had a coupon running in the local paper - brting in your old chocolate (xmas stuff, halloween, whatever) and get a free Chantico. I tried it - not bad but not worth the $$ if actually paying for it - and from the looks of it it's not a very healthy drink either. Beats the heck out of a cup of swiss miss though.

If you look at it another way, it's not really that bad a deal--2X more expensive for 3X more calories! :)

ew..it would be weird if they made it out of the old chocolate you bring in.

My wife picked up the literature about Chantico on Sunday.

Today on way home from work she picked up some. She said that it tastes very smooth. A strong full bodied hot chocolate. I think that it tastes very rich and strong. A nice treat.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier, I just found about it ...

Today (in the LA area, anyway) they're doing free "samplings" (where "sampling" = the full 6 oz. cup) of Chantico between 4pm and 6pm. So, if you hurry, you can get yourself a free Chantico. :)
