And now the people will be punished by the continued dismantling and neglect of the ACA.

Which will ultimately lead to single payer. I'm ok with that.

One thing is for sure: when the Obamacare subsidies collapse the entire system, you can't say the Republicans didn't try, regardless of how you rate their attempt. It'll be all on the Democrats.

These people can't do basic math. You can't cover pre existing conditions without forcing healthy people to buy insurance, 2+2 is not 5.

If that happens single payer is inevitable.

We don't know what it will lead to. Republicans still aren't close to embracing that solution.

We also don't know what will result from allowing the ACA to collapse.

But I suspect it will involve a lot of needless suffering.

No. It won't. It's on your conservative friends who would rather see the people suffer so they can have a little more money in your pocket.

It's not simply a difference of political opinion. It's evil. Republicans are dealing in evil.

So the Republicans had a chance to fix and/or replace, and because they are unable to do their jobs it's on the Democrats? This partisan way of thinking is sort of Neanderthalish.

I guess you could also say that since the Democrats gave us this mess in the first place then it's their fault. Or you can say the Republicans could have worked to improve the system that is in place, and provide a service many people want.

He has not, it's always partisan.

Obamacare replacement dead, Iran deal repeal dead, wall nowhere close to being built. Thank goodness Trump and Congressional conservatives are woefully incompetent.

Funny all this time the Republicans touted a better plan, but mostly it was cut's to medicaid, and tax breaks for the wealthy. The rest of America? Eh...

$400 billion for one State alone. Not sustainable at any level.

I'm glad I live in California, work for the state, am in a union, and have rock solid health insurance.

The rest of you ... good luck.

Republicans have the majority and we're drafting this in closed door meetings. Why should Democrats attempt to participate in Republicans political suicide? Bitch please.

I'm going to bite on this, because it's something I've always been curious about.

Some talk about single payer as the end all be all solutions to our health care problems. But what gives you that kind of confidence? Every former citizen on the UK that moves to the US that I have spoken to about this (small sample, I'll grant you) hates it. Long waits & poor coverage make for a pretty miserable system. And we have a pretty decent, small scale example of what this would look like in the US to have a government run health care system...the VA. These are the people that we are supposed to appreciate the most for the sacrifices they have made in defense of our country and its a system run by terrible inefficiencies, poor care and outright scandal. Congress attempted to act by throwing a ton of money at the problem, which hasn't help at all.

Is what we have now perfect? Absolutely not? Do I have the silver bullet idea that fixes it all? No way. But I fail to see how the federal government being the sole provider of health care coverage is anything other than an unmitigated disaster.
