I work out at LA Fitness and they have TV screens hanging above the machines. If you want to hear the TV I was told that "you need to get an FM Tuner app" then I suppose you put in the channel number (like 93.5 or something) and you can hear the TV. I went looking for FM Tuner apps and don't see anything that looks like what they were talking about. All of the apps seemed to be the kind where you put in the station and you only get radio.

Has anyone successfully done this? Which app did you use and how did you use it? Thanks.

Yeah that's the idea. They have a local transmitter. Just put in the station that they're mentioning and you'll hear their transmission. Same idea as a drive in movie.

OK, but what app would I use? Something like AOL Radio? Just put in the frequency number in the search box and I would get the sound on the TV?

Sorry, no. The iPhone/iPod Touch does not have an actual FM receiver inside. Only the iPod Nano does. The apps will stream via the internet, but the local transmitter won't have a net stream.

Hmmm, so that sounds like I get into the Safari internet window and enter the station number I want to listen to (let's say it's 94.1 and I would put 'television' next to the search term just to try to narrow it down). I go to their internet site and probably find a 'streaming' button to click. Then I hear what they have to say and am greatly amused. Right?

There is an app called Tunity that works wonderfully on iPhone. I'm sure it's available for Android as well.

No, not right. Your phone can not, I repeat: CAN NOT, receive what the LA Fitness is broadcasting. It is a different way of broadcasting. With safari, you are trying to receive an internet-stream, but LA Fitness broadcasts via FM. This is not the same. Your phone can not receive the FM broadcast.

    simplified:
LA Fitness broadcasts the TV sound through FM, not through internet.
Your phone has internet, no FM receiver.

Your might try @rhomcl suggestion: http://www.tunity.com/ looks promising.
