    hello
Just got a new mac and started to torrent with IbVPN using Utorrent and the mac crashed.
After a few more tries it won’t connect to the net even if wifi status is connected.
Returned the mac because I thought it was faulty and exchanged.
Now I tried again but with deluge and Qbittorrent and the same happens again, I was only able to get a movie and now it won’t connect to the net again.
Can anybody give me some advice?

Yea VPNs are often garbage with macOS. If you don't fully disable them they kill internet connectivity. Post a screenshot of your Network menu in System Preferences.

I know, I’m sorry, I just couldn’t help it. It was a total knee jerk reaction to torrenting movies ...

Honestly I've never used ibvpn but general rule of thumb should be never use 3rd party software when you can do it native ( in this case I see less functional devices use PPTP, I would have used that or if that wasn't a option id install and use the openvpn option.

Anyway that doesn't solve these current problem,
for that I'd check network settings for new adapters and or proxy settings as many of those VPN utilities set those up

Check the hosts file in /private/etc...
It should only have one entry...
    ------------------------------------
    ##
    # Host Database
    #
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
    ##
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
    ::1 localhost
    --------------------------------------

Thanks but this a bit too advanced for me, I'll try to find where to check those settings, I'm still fairly new on macOS

ok I've found it and it is as you said so everything should be fine. my mac gets connected to the net again now but is still fairly unstable so I'll try using openVPN and see if it woks ok.

so everyone who's had the same problem can read, my mac is now fine. I'm using OpenVPN protocol with Transmission and all is well, good speed, no crashes.
