Since I returned my iMac after 2.5 years of using it because of screen issues I'm stuck with just my 13'' MacBook Pro. Now, I do really enjoy the MacBook Pro since it finally has a quad core processor, but I miss the screen size of my 5K iMac 27 inch. So I've been looking into a few monitors to use with my MacBook Pro.

I'm going to be very honest by saying that I'm not really a techie so don't really know which monitors are good. The only things I want is that it works well with my MacBook Pro (I'm guessing with USB-C) and that is has a sharp display with vivid colors.

I've stumbled across the LG 27UK850 which roughly around 500 euros (see picture below). This seems to be the cheapest option, but I'm wondering if there's anything better for the price. I don't want to pay too much since I'm a student, but do want something that's nice to work with, so I don't mind paying a little more (not too much though).

Any recommendations?

It depends on the size of the screen you want. Do you have access to Amazon?

I ask because if you can, they often sell the refurb 22” UltraFine 4K for $249 US. You could pick up two of them for the same price as that 27” you have above and you’ll not only get more screen real estate, you’ll get the same retina quality that you’re used to on the MbP.

If you can save up some money, I'd wait for the 6K screen that Apple is going to pair with the new Mac Pro. Otherwise, have you considered getting another iMac? Also, how do you return a 2.5 year old iMac?

We even know for sure if Apple is going to release a 6k screen, that’s just a rumor. And if they do, there is no telling if the current MacBook Pro will even support that display. That leaves a lot of guessing, no?

The OP mentioned screen issues and is in the UK, so consumer rights are a little stronger there. Either that or apple allowed a return under the repeat repair policy.

I'm guessing the 6K display is going to be quite expensive since the 5k display from LG is already well above the thousand mark. Also, we have no idea whether or not it will actually work on a 2018 13'' MacBook Pro. I btw had an extended warranty and they couldn't fix my display issues so I got a refund.
