Isn't there a forum for Lincoln Navigators? Or is that what the community board on macrumors is for nowadays?

Positive. That is an AC pressure switch with the wires coming out just to the right of it. If you follow that hose you will find one end goes to the AC condenser (looks like a thin radiator) mounted in front of the radiator, and the other end goes into a housing near the firewall that encloses the AC evaporator.

Your car uses R134a as a refrigerant. If you go to Autozone or whatever and buy a recharge kit you will find a snap on connector on the refill hose that will match the fitting in the photo (one you take the cap off of course).
