Help with DL DVD burning on Mac Mini

I am trying to burn some movies to a DL DVD. I created a project in iDVD, inserted the disk and told it to burn. 5 hours later, theres nothing on the DVD and my mini says that the disk has 2.2 MB capacity. I looked on the disk, and theres data on it (some parts look "lighter" than on the other blank DVDs) but my computer and DVD player won't recognize any of the data that is on it.
Any ideas on what i did wrong?
