This is a video I took of what my Macbook Air is doing. Excuse the rambling.
Just to add: I did turn off all extensions and Safari still lags I also did clear the cache and cookies and the random lags still occur. I haven't done anything different besides upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite.

Any input or advice how to correct these issues would greatly be helpful.

We are all experiencing some kind of lag, e.g. Click on the menu heading 'help' of any app and you'll see how slow the blue highlighting appears, you can almost see it being drawn. Or try to resize a finder window in column mode, or browse the "about my Mac" tabs .. ...

Yosemite needs further optimization, there is no argument about that.

Even people with the latest macro are experiending the same kind of issues, so is not strictly linked to your specific hardware.

Then why was it released if its still Beta quality work? Jeeze. Lol Im tempted just to try to go back to Mavericks because if I wanted Windows style lag Id just spend 300 dollars on the same hardware and have Windows 8. Blah.. I was hoping there was some sort of optimization that I could do. I already turned off the graphics for the task bar. Someone told me to go full screen with Safari which I hate full screen I like having quick access to the other things. Also, the email program is just ridiculous.. I mean if you have more then 5 emails you can not quickly go through and delete them.. Maybe I just need to get thunderbird and firefox.

It seems that panzaman has jumped into the thread without actually looking at your issues :p

What you have here has nothing to do with lag in the common sense of the word. Especially at these forums, people refer to lag as the delay between action and visualisation, that is, slow drawing of some sort.

Your first issue is with new Mail. I also have it. The reason why it takes so long for the inbox to show the correct number of emails is the synchronisation mechanism Mail uses. When you delete something, it has to perform a round trip to the server, tell the server to delete the message and then update the counts accordingly. However, the server plays a key role here, as it is actually the agent that performs the deletion. With my mail, deleting a single message is fast and updates fast. But when I delete a bunch of messages quickly, then it starts to act up. I believe the reason is that its waiting for the server to perform the operations. The deletion is not instantaneous and the server will throttle the responses if it receives lots of requests within short time. In another words, Mail is just being honest here and waits until the messages are actually deleted. Which is not what a user wants. One way to "fix it" is basically to "lie" to the user — for example, report that the messages are deleted, while they are actually not. I hope Apple will implement it in the future. They did say that Mail was a complete rewrite, so some rough edges should be expected — no first version is ever perfect.

Your Safari problem is a different one and it almost looks as if it has some problems with accessing the history. I do not have this issue nor does any other machine in my care (I maintain around a dozen Yosemite machines and none of them has this kind of issue). Did you try running repair permissions?

Don't really see anything out of ordinary there, its mostly printer-related stuff, that is usually messed up. If you continue having issues with Safari, I would also suggest to reset the Safari preferences. This thread lists files associated with Safari (no idea whether its still up-to-date): https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4099160?tstart=0

Usually, deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist and ~/Library/Safari should be enough, but if you want to be thorough, you can try deleting everything mentioned in that article. Please not that this will definitively lose all your saved data in Safari and that I do not take any responsibility if it kills your OS, your Mac, burns down your house or makes your pancakes taste bad :)

I probably did :) as I read "performance" and "yosemite" I see red!!! can't bare it. As I states in another thread my Windows 8 VM machine runs much smoother on this MacBook Pro than yosemite. Just can't accept it!

in respect of the Apple email problem - it is a bit difficult to see your screen properly but it looks as if the emails you are deleting have more than 1 email in them - I can see what looks like 2 and 3 symbols under the time on the right hand side of the left browser pane. Apple email will still show them as unread unless you can see the most recent email in the right browser window.

Not sure how fast your connection speed is but the emails appear to be still loading in the right panel as you are deleting them so that is why it is not working the way you are expecting.....

You need to be able to see all of the most recent email in the right panel before you delete it. Otherwise Mail thinks (quite correctly) that you have not read it !

Cannot help you with Safari since I rarely use it - it has been unusable for years. Try Chrome or Opera and see if you still get the same lag.

How much ram does your Air have - you describe it as a top-end laptop - since the Air is the cheapest model in the Apple range with the poorest specs what does that make the MacBook Pro models ?

I didn't have the email problems until the uupgrade And I call it top end since Windows laptops with similar configurations are had for half the price. 4 gig of ram and a 128 gig hard drive should be more then enough for YouTube and emails. That's all I do and it was fine until the upgrade.

Did you try doing a fresh install? Sometimes, that can make a difference (for various reasons and your individual results may vary).

I haven't tried a fresh install yet. I figure I might try the recovery mode and see if I can get Mavericks back from there.

Yosemite creates a recovery partition upon installation. More than likely, you will need to download Mavericks again, unless you have a usb installer handy.

Is it possible, that your system was indexing after your installation and you noticed the lag soon afterward? Depending on the used size of your HD, indexing can take awhile.

Iv had this installed since October. I doubt its been indexing that whole time. lol. Iv just tolerated the problems hoping it would work out or they would release some sort of update to correct the issues.

I don't have any of the problems you listed. I have one nagging issue and that's keyboard lagging when typing. That's it, nothing else at all.
