HEVC produces blurrier photos + videos on iphone 8

tested 20 pictures of my room at the exact same spot, 40 photos overall, 20 with HEVC 20 without.

all 20 were slightly blurrier using HEVC.

same goes for video.

just a heads up.

i don't have any "plus" versions. but try looking at the photos zoomed in. you'll definitely notice the difference.

HEVC, like JPG is a lossy compression algorithm. In other words, some picture data is lost as a trade off for smaller file sizes. Obviously the goal is to try to lose data that is not noticeable, but the end result is that the compressed image will be different than the original. If you don’t want to see this you will need to shoot in RAW or TIF or one of the other non lossy formats.
