Good to see it going back to its original name rather than being named after a politician who had no real connection to it.
And, of course, Kasich is offended, as William McKinley, who had never seen, let alone been to Alaska, was from Ohio.
I'm sure he'll get over it after a few days.
I lived in Alaska for three years twenty years ago. Nobody--not even tourists--called it "Mount McKinley." It was always Denali.
I like to see Mount Rainier changed to Mount Tahoma.
Agreed, it is the right thing to do.
So exactly how many people in Alaska refer to it as Danali?
While the change of name may or may not be welcomed, what isn't welcome by my standards is that some sanctimonious assclown in the Oval Office took it upon himself to do yet another whimsical pen stroke without consulting anyone like Congress. The means doesn't justify the end in this case at any level.
Agree. How dare Woodrow Wilson rename Denali "McKinley" with a whimsical pen stroke without consulting Congress?
Research is your friend.
Denali means black power in Kenyan. I saw it on the Internet.
In Swedish it means "gay soldier". You can't make this stuff up.
The only people who are concerned over this are the people in Ohio. President McKinley never went to Alaska, and probably had no interest in a mountain in that state.
It's time the people of Ohio erected a monument to this man if they truly feel he is that important...to their state.
And Bristol Palin. Whoa, this is brutal.
The highest point in Ohio is 1,550 ft above sea level.
I think they are suffering from mountain envy.
But can she see it from her house?
Most Alaskans it seems for the past 4 decades or so. It's only at the federal level that it was called McKinley, even the state of Alaska referred to it as Denali. Given it's the Alaskans that wanted it, being in their state and all, Ohio has very little say in the matter. It's only because Obama's name is attached to this that anyone feels the need to whine.
The only assclowns are the obstructionists who regardless of whether or not they actually agree with something will automatically oppose anything and everything President Obama does just to be spiteful.
Ya. You'd think that these people would just shut up at least for the last year of his term, but no.
so a black power Kenyan is shoving the gay down peoples throats?
I was wondering what the hell this meme was about .
wow, that was a good read.
That meme is hysterical. Too true.
It's unbelieveable this is even a discussion. The park is called Denali, the mountain has always been Denali, the state recognizes the mountain as Denali.
IF you don't like Denali, you're in Denile.
Maybe GM will make a McKinley truck now.
The change was made at the request of the Alaska State government. I thought conservatives were supposed to be all about state rights.
It will be a fitting memorial, yes.
The geography is part of the USA itself and not just one entity (state). I don't care if the person sitting in the chair is of either party. While I do have deep respect for native American populations, one person making a decision that impacts everyone could have easily gone in a very sour direction and thus, I stand by my original comment that more than one person should decide and nothing to do with party lines or conservative vs liberal.
