Historically - how long do stock shortages last?

I am heading over to the states on November 1st and would like to buy a sim-free iPhone in-store. Are there likely to still be in-store shortages, based on previous launches?

Not long, I was able to buy an iPhone 5 by walking a verizon store and get the iPhone 5 a couple of weeks after it hit the streets.

A week or 2. Even with shortages you can still find stock at some stores.
