The fun fireworks are illegal in IL, so we use the next best thing that goes bang. People are just blowing off steam because their beverages just doubled in price and they're looking at a 32% income tax hike. Neither of which will pull us back from the brink of bankruptcy. If our lawmakers could figure out a way to tax oxygen, they would.

Do they have legalized pot there? If not, that would be more incoming tax revenue and also possibly cut down on the violence.

We do not, we only have pot for medicinal purposes. Our elected leaders struggled with the morality of a casino believe it or not, so pot may take awhile. They have no moral reservations about bending us all over and ripping our income out of our asses however.

The solution is we should just deem gang members domestic terrorists and start locking them up before they have a chance to use the guns.

I seem to recall that things got so bad in DC that at one point the police installed microphones in the worst affected areas so they could detect triangulate within seconds the location of gunshots. Only in the US....

When will people learn, outlawing something doesn't make it go away. Almost as if, changing the law, does not change the truth.

It would be my guess that most of these shootings were drug and gang related. War on drugs, epic fail. Chicago doesn't have a gun problem, it's got a bunch of people that don't give a damn about the law. I'm going to make a wild prediction here, and say these problems will remain until there is no profit to be made off the sale of things the Government has deemed people can't have, or do with their own bodies.

I agree. My comment was just teasing people who think the solution to shootings is to arm even more people to the teeth.

I'm sure the for-profit prison industry would be thrilled with that solution.

Chicago has ShotSpotter as well. Giving the location to dispatch in seconds means nothing after the fact, it still takes minutes for a squad to arrive.

    From another thread last month.

Chicago's gun laws haven't been the strictest since 2014.

    - Chicago's handgun ban was ruled unconstitutional by SCOTUS in 2010. (Thank you Otis McDonald and Alan Gura)
    - Illinois is a shall issue concealed carry state.
    - Illinois handgun laws preempt city, town, and village laws.
    - Assault weapon bans are pretty much gone, with the exception of 3 or 4 cities.

We are still required to have a FOID card, hopefully that gets repealed soon.

One of the biggest issues in Cook County (Chicago), is criminals not being charged at the federal level, or firearms charges being reduced, and many times tossed out.

Disarmament can only come when the governments of the world stop enforcing their will, at the point of a gun, or a tank, or a rocket fired from remote control from the sky at their political enemies.

I don't think you realize the pure irony of your statement. You're celebrating that gun laws are being relaxed, but then at the same time complain that people aren't being charged with firearms charges. There's nothing to charge them with if you don't even need an FOID to carry a gun. You can't repeal gun laws and then hit people with firearms charges. You want to have your cake and eat it too, doesn't work that way. Now every criminal on the street who has a gun will be just as much of a legal gun owner as you. Genius plan....

You realize criminals can't own firearms right, not legally.

Sure. They're not a criminal until they use that gun in a criminal way.

You can't relax gun laws to the point where you don't even need to carry an FOID and then still expect criminals to get hit will firearms charges. The world doesn't work like that.

How many gang members do you think possess a valid FOID card? "I plan on shooting that mother F'er over there, but first let me get my FOID card to make it legit."

Most gang members don't have criminal records yet until they get caught committing crime. They can buy a gun just as legally as you. Hurts your brain doesn't it?

So let's repeal that FOID law and make it even harder to lock dangerous people up, right? Because that's what you're advocating while failing to see the major flaw in your logic.

When you repeal gun laws to the point where there practically are none, there is no difference between a legal gun owner and a criminal gun owner. You're just making it harder to prosecute criminals and keep them off the street. Not your desired effect right?
