And I suppose advocating for sound fiscal policy makes you an anarchist? Way to fly off the edge there C-dude.
At least its not a gala for Scientology. Celebs don't really live in the real world, they take any excuse to drink and congratulate each other.
Alec Baldwin, Anjelica Huston, Lea Michele, Eva Mendes, Kellan Lutz, Christian Serratos, Dave Navarro, Eli Roth, Joaquin Phoenix, Casey Affleck, Abbie Cornish, Pamela Anderson, Iggy Pop, Jena Malone, Sophia Bush, Kelly Osbourne and Charo... Yep... that's all of Hollywood... or at least a majority of it. Charo sealed it.
Pretty desperate to construct some hypocrisy. I don't think they'd shun meat either if life depended on it. However it doesn't in western society. The way I see it is that one can and should do everything they can to avoid impacting and exploiting animals. Be it reduce consumption of meat, buy meat from ethical sources, or best off all cut out meat altogether. Likewise when it comes to scientific research. We should absolutely be moving away from the reliance of animals in research towards alternate methods wherever possible. And a lot of the time it is entirely possible. Would definitey hang with Iggy, Navarro, and Casey. Sounds like it would be a great party. Edit: haha also an article from The Ministry of Gossip.
haha Ingrid 's "Will"..... "a. That the “meat” of my body, or a portion thereof, be used for a human barbecue, to remind the world that the meat of a corpse is all flesh, regardless of whether it comes from a human being or another animal, and that flesh foods are not needed; b. That my skin, or a portion thereof, be removed and made into leather products, such as purses, to remind the world that human skin and the skin of other animals is the same and that neither is “fabric” nor needed, and that some skin be tacked up outside the Indian Leather Fair each year to serve as a reminder of the government’s need to abate the suffering of Indian bullocks who, after a life of extreme and involuntary servitude, as I have seen firsthand, are exported all over the world in this form; c. That in remembrance of the elephant-foot umbrella stands and tiger rugs I saw, as a child, offered for sale by merchants at Connaught Place in Delhi, my feet be removed and umbrella stands or other ornamentation be made from them, as a reminder of the depravity of killing innocent animals, such as elephants, in order that we might use their body parts for household items and decorations; d. That one of my eyes be removed, mounted, and delivered to the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a reminder that PETA will continue to be watching the agency until it stops poisoning and torturing animals in useless and cruel experiments; that the other is to be used as PETA sees fit; e. That my pointing finger be delivered to Kenneth Feld, owner of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, or to a circus museum to stand as the “Greatest Accusation on Earth” on behalf of the countless elephants, lions, tigers, bears, and other animals who have been kidnapped from their families and removed from their homelands in India, Thailand, Africa, and South America and deprived of all that is natural and pleasant to them, abused, and forced into involuntary servitude for the sake of cheap entertainment; f. That my liver be vacuum-packed and shipped, in whole or in part, to France, to there be used in a public appeal to persuade shoppers not to support the vile practice of force-feeding geese and ducks for foie gras; g. That one of my ears be removed, mounted, and sent to the Canadian Parliament to assist them in hearing, for the first time perhaps, the screams of the seals, bears, raccoons, foxes, and minks bludgeoned, trapped, and sometimes skinned alive for their pelts; that the other ear be removed, preserved, and displayed outside the Deonar abattoir in Mumbai to remind all who do business there that the screams of the cattle who are slaughtered within its walls are heard around the world; h. That one of my thumbs be removed, mounted upwards on a plaque, and sent to the person or institution that, in the year of my death or thereabouts, PETA decides has done the most to promote alternatives to the use and abuse of animals in any area of their exploitation; i. That one of my thumbs be mounted in a downward position and sent to the person or institution that, in the year of my death or thereabouts, has gone against the changing tide of societal opinion and frightened and hurt animals in some egregious manner;" Personally, I would LOVE one of the 2 Ingrid Newkirk Leg-Umbrella-Holders, or my very own Ingrid-B-Q sandwich. After all, animals = humans in their eyes, so why not indulge? EDIT- I really would love to chill with Navarro and Iggy though...
If I were a rich man, I would go out and have a steak dinner every time PETA is mentioned in the news. I'll settle for the chicken fettuccine alfredo I was planning on making tonight. But gotta have the chicken in it, just to piss off PETA
PETA is pretty insane. I just finished a fundraiser for a local animal shelter, I agree animals need protection but PETA takes it so far that it becomes funny. PETA proposes that Ben & Jerry's use human breast milk in its ice cream http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26892950/
Enslaves the cow. Clover Stornetta Farms, producers of Clover Milk ran a full page ad this week in the San Francisco Chronicle promoting their American Humane Association certified practices... • Free to live and grow in a humane environment under conditions and care that limit stress. • Free to enjoy a healthy life, benefiting from injury and disease prevention and rapid diagnoses and treatment. • Free to readily access fresh water and a diet that maintains full health and vigor. • Free to express normal behaviors and live in an appropriate and comfortable environment that includes sufficient space, proper facilities, shelter, a resting area, and the company of its own kind. So while they still enslave cows, at least they're trying to be nice about it. And yes, while vegetarian I still eat eggs and cheese. So I also contribute to animal slavery.
Here come all the people smacking their lips over meat. Very predicable. You guys need to get a new schtick.
It's just something I've noticed. You try to address the issue and you soon get post after post of... [drool] SPARERIBS!!! [/drool] But I don't want to cramp your style. It's probably best that you get it out of your system.
It is getting it out at the other end that is often the rub. Literally. Quick article from Peter Singer back when he was promoting is quite excellent book, The Ethics of What We Eat. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2006/jul/12/comment.animalwelfare
They don't look unhappy to me. I live in farm country, and generally, cows have pretty nice looking areas to live in. The worst thing seems to be the muddy ground in areas often walked. (edit) Yes, I know slaughter is brutal, and I know that not every farmer does it well.
Do you think cows share your sense of morals or any other human emotion? How about wolves? Deer? Coyotes? Polar bears? Sharks? Killer whales? Snails? etc... Animals eat to survive. I eat to survive. That I eat meat is merely a part of it. (edit) I'm NOT saying animals don't feel emotions, or fear, or pain... I'm just saying, nature is nature. We are part of nature. We aren't better than the wolf that eats its prey, nor are we worse.
