Because only idiots think the homeless problem is due to a lack of affordable housing. Neither Newsom or Garcetti understand the problem or how to fix it.

Well their supporters think it's a housing problem. They're also the same people who believe many just simply aren't paying their fair share. Less homes and less cars for those people and all the problems will be solved.

In other news, people with cushy jobs who read statistics all day are surprised to find the real world doesn't actually match the data. More on this at 5...

It's a mental health and drug issue, not a lack of housing issue. You can build 100 story high rises in (pick the city), they're not going to get a solid roof over their head and then problem solved. Expand conservatorship and the definition of greatly disabled. These people need help, not cheap housing.

Have you ever had to take care of a mentally ill person? The amount of work exceeds a full-time job.

Red states have been shipping their poor people, some who would otherwise die in the streets during the winter, to CA for decades. I saw this first hand when I stationed in San Diego more than 20 years ago. A coworker, who was 10 years older than me and grew up in SD already knew about the problem.

We agreed that ******* red states don’t take care of their poor.

I do like how helping the homeless is now considered a curse and liability by conservatives.

I like how the liberal hypocrisy is exposed once those homeless are sent to the sanctuary cities they build.............

Poor deflection guy. This problem has been ongoing for decades.

The conservative hypocrisy is exposed when you think this problem is new. It isn't. You didn't care then and you still don't care now. Homelessness is a problem older than your talking points.
    --- Post Merged, Jun 4, 2019 ---
Tell us from your high horse how to fix the problem. I can tell you a lot about Orange County and how some affluent neighborhoods refuse to allow more homeless shelters. No amount of money is going to fix that.

Some money is spent on low income people who would otherwise be homeless due to the lack of affordable housing. But the ignorant wouldn't believe that.

Again with your sanctuary city dodge. Maybe you should ask an older person who has seen homeless steadily increase over the years before your sanctuary city right-wing talking point was created.

Since you asked me to try reading the article, did you? Where does sanctuary appear?

Did you notice on the pretty graph that a sharp rise began in 2015 well before your right wing talking points?

You went to the "kommie" card rather quickly. It's as if you didn't see sanctuary in the article and decided to deflect to another of your right wing talking points.

You know what size us not in the article? Common sense , sanctuary status is part of the reason why there are so many homeless

But why the big jump in homelessness in LA county and LA ?

Does the increase in homelessness show that drug use is worse there then elsewhere or that people with mental health issues are immigrating there ?

I think that the causes of homelessness need to be treated but I'm not convinced that drug use and mental health issues are the only causes.
