    When will it stop?

Om a whole other level, it's disgusting that the residents of DC are rules by people who they didn't vote for.

Stupid to reverse it. At the same time it is also dumb that health care is still tied to your employment. It seems to me that if there was a single payer healthcare system then there would be no need for laws like DC's.

Foolish measure, but minor considering the magnitude of corruption that manifests itself daily in Washington. And no, D.C. will never get statehood.

Nice to know that Congress is occupying itself with only the most important matters to the nation.

It's time for DC statehood - either as part of Maryland or Virginia, as its own state, or as part of 'Transatlantia' (DC+PR, which was floated as an idea for awhile).

THIS- brought to us by warriors for Christ. More religious discrimination paraded as religious freedom. Employers have no business concerning themselves with your private life. What makes the GOP hypocritical among other things is their "liberty from onerous goverernment" stance. Apparently government is only objectionable when it interfere with my profits, but Christianity for all! :(

True, but it would require an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Some theorists claim that it could be effected by an Act of Congress but most constitutional scholars don't believe it would survive the inevitable SCOTUS challenge.

D.C. statehood is a solution in search of a problem. D.C has been a federal district for over 200 years and it's worked just fine.

Have you ever been lived in DC or been involved in the DC government? It hasn't worked fine at all. But hey, who cares? They're mostly descendants of ex-slaves who were encouraged to settle there. Besides, they'd vote Democratic, and we can't have that. DC is a nice little reservation, but without the autonomy....

The days when DC needs to be federal are over. If DC joined Virginia or Maryland, those states could not hold the federal government to ransom like the old days. Besides, since 9/11 many government offices have relocated to Maryland & Virginia.

It won't. But, it is always worthwhile to be reminded that for most of these folks, what they really mean is "mandatory motherhood". You would think that they would be in favor of contraception, but, of course, they aren't.

That doesn't bother me so much. Our taxes pay for most of it.
