Thinking of snagging a 2016 rMB, but I'm planning on using a non-Apple monitor with it as well. Preferably 4K. How are people's experiences? Any noticeable lag or slowdown compared to a MBA/MBP/PC?

I read people getting 60Hz @ 3440x1440 with Dell U3415W 34" Curved monitor, though it does not have USB-C to charge the RMB
and 30Hz @ 3840x2160 with LG 27UD88 27" monitor, but this one has USB-C so the monitor charges while connected and you can use the monitor as a giant dock (one cable to rule them all)

Also check out Viewsonic XG3401, a 34" 3440x1440 curved IPS gaming monitor gaming monitor with USB-C (also matches space gray I think).

I personally would go with either LG 27UD88 or wait for more monitors to come out with USB-C like 27UD88. I believe A 4k monitor with USB-C is a little more future-proof.

To add to Precursor, Monoprice is releasing a 34" curved ultrawide @ 3440x1440 75hz that has USBC monitor + charging for $500 in the next month or two. Supposed to be same panels as LG but we'll see. If I end up with a MB (or MBP with USBC in the next refresh) that would be a killer combo.

I use an LG ultrawide with my 2015 retina MacBook now and have also used a Dell (in our office there is always new equipment coming in). 60Hz no problem for me, although I did read other people's reports that the choice of HDMI cable may affect the outcome. Reading about a Monoprice curved ultrawide at US$500 makes me a little sad at having bought a year ago, but it's great news for anyone who's thinking of getting a 3440x1440 monitor now.
