Having a great time with Colorsplash for iPhone:

    http://www.pocketpixels.com/ColorSplash.html

What I'd like to know is what are the tools in Photoshop that can achieve the same effects?

Specifically, grayscaling the image, and then using a brush to add the same colours back in to whichever area, and then having the ability to remove the colour if I happen to colour outside the intended area, etc.

    Thanks!

    Layer->New Adjustment Layer -> Hue/Saturation...

Set Saturation to -100 by using the saturation slider...

Then start erasing the adjustment layer from areas you want colour to pop through
Command-Z to undo your mistake, or use the history brush

    P.S.
Why do you own a multi hundred dollar application like photoshop and not even know how to use it?

its easier to draw paths for selection rather than erase large areas.

That's overly complicated of you're just removing desaturation from eyes or other small bits though.

Sure if you're colouring a whole car, paths maybe the way to go.

I'm just saying, why would someone spend hundreds of dollars on something they don't know how to use?

Unless they visited the piratebay store?

I'm pretty sure everyone that first got photoshop didnt know how to use it. Your logic is flawed. That's like saying, why spend 20,000 a year to go to school if you dont know anything. It's called...wait for it...learning WOHOO! Sheesh just give the guy some simple advice and let him run with it.

    You are rude.

I paid for photoshop and I know nothing about it. All I know is when I need it, I have it.

    Period.

Some of us are programmers, not designers, but still have $$.

I don't want to learn PS more than what I need to do. I know it's expensive for a programmer that just wants to do basic stuff & modify stuff made by the designer to fit programming needs, but I like how PS works.

I don't like seeing people judge if the PS license is legal or not on the PS knowledge of the user.

    The Tools

Exactly, Photoshop has many-many tools. A professional user probably doesn't know everything, but what they do know, they know well. FYI, using pirated software has nothing to do with ones knowledge of the software.

I have had a lot of luck looking at a variety of Youtube tutorials for Photoshop. Try looking at some of the most basic ones, while you follow along.
    Good luck!

Sorry I didn't provide the steps. Figured anyone that knows PS would know about the layers and eraser. My bad...
