Sometimes when I see a clip on webpage on my computer or iPad (I also have an Android phone where this could come in handy) I want to show it on my TV using my Apple TV 4. Just enabling Airplay and mirror the screen isn't good enough because of frame drops and general stuttering. Also, the aspect ratio is frequently a problem. Is there a good and easy way to "share" a clip from an external source to an Apple TV?

It's pretty common with the ATV and more pronounce i found on the 4. The problem is you cant send or hand off the link to the ATV directly, it always runs through the other device so you have that double wifi traffic and hence the stutter.

On compatible video (Vimeo, for instance) Safari on El Capitan will show you an Airplay icon right in the player. If you click that, Safari will send the raw data directly to your Apple TV, avoiding the whole decoding and re-encoding process involved in Airplay mirroring which can cause stuttering.

Another option is Plex, both the free and paid versions offer Plex It! -- a bookmarklet that if you press while on a video page, it is added to a "Watch-it-Later" queue which appears on anything you use Plex on, including the ATV4. You can also 'cast' it from your PC/Mac to your TV right from the bookmarklet panel or 'recommend' it to another Plex user in your Friends list, after which it shows up in the 'recommended' section of their Plex home screen.
