Hi, group!

I'm almost desperate. I bought a M1 MacBook Pro with BigSur 11.2.3 and... not a single one of my Intel Apps work! Rosetta is no longer a part of the system and... I really don't know what to do now.

Anyone has a good expert tip to circumvent the problem?

Thanks in advance

I'm on 11.2.3 and Intel apps work just fine. I have three running in the background as I type this...

Rosetta 2, as everyone has said, is most definitely available for any Apple Silicon system. It isn't installed by default, but you should be prompted to download it as soon as you attempt to install an Intel app. If this is not happening for you, then I would suggest downloading Cyberduck (even if you don't need it), then reboot your Mac and once rebooted install and run Cyberduck.

I'm suggesting that purely because that's the app which triggered the Rosetta 2 install for me, when I was setting up my M1, so I know it definitely works.

Just to be clear for anyone else reading this, as has been said further in the thread and in case my comments above haven’t clear enough...... what can I say, I don’t sleep much :D

This is in no way, shape or form a replacement, substitute or alternative for Rosetta 2. It is merely an Intel based app which, for whatever reason, seems to reliably trigger the installation of Rosetta 2 from Apple, for myself and some friends/family, when you install the Cyberduck app.

Cyberduck itself is a multi-function FTP, WebDAV, libre server, cloud storage browser and so on and so on, app, which I have nothing to do with, but highly recommended if you need a program of that sort. You can get a free version from the website, but please purchase on the AppStore, or donate to the developer. There’s been a lot of work done in this app for many years now.

People keep saying Rosetta 2 is a part of 11.2.3 and I really would like to believe it. So, why the system keep "telling" me I can't "work" on Intel apps, because Rosetta 2 isn't available on my region?
I'm pretty sure you know what you are talking about, but the fact is the apps I'm trying to mount keep "saying" that.
Even when I try to search for Rosetta on Terminal, I get a message the app isn't there...

Is Cyberduck a "substitute" for Rosetta 2? Maybe this is a good alternative. Thanks for the tip. I sure will give it a try.

Glad you have fixed your issue. Just in case you misunderstood, Cyberduck is NOT a substitute for Rosetta 2.....just an app the poster said happened to be what triggered Rosetta 2 for him.

Are you trying to run any 32 bit programs? I thought my mini was having issues when I was setting it up as well, turns out the program was a 32 bit program and would not install no matter what I tried.

Maybe you should've mentioned what region you are from. There may be certain limitations regarding export restrictions, licensing issues, etc. in some regions that others are not affected by at all.

Hi, group!

@ Mike Boreham: I know Cyberduck isn't a substitute; but this app "unlocked" Rosetta 2 pretty well!

@mj: I'm from the European Union, not North Korea, or Cuba! Just kidding...;)

Thanks again, for your interest!

I am in the EU (Cyprus) and my M1 Mac Pro runs Intel apps no issue! never asked me to install Rosetta 2 that I remember but I have via the terminal now and still works fine. I see in activity Intel and Apple.

FYI - the easy manual way to install Rosetta 2 without triggering via an app install;

1. Open up a terminal, type;
softwareupdate --install-rosetta

2. Agree to the license, follow any instructions that appear on the screen.

PS - Rosetta 2 is not going anywhere anytime soon, it will be with us for a while.

One more trick to keep Rosetta for future offline use...

When you launch intel app for the first time - it will ask to download Rosetta. Click yes - and after it downloads there should be one more ask to install it.

Now stop - and open some file explorer app (I use Find Any File) and search for files with .pkg extension. If you filter most recent files - it will immediatelly show Rosetta Update pkg file, only 460kb in size...

Back it up and you will have it for the future....

Exactly what I did!!
