How come Galaxy S4 has a volume of how high auto brightness is?

I've noticed when you put auto brightness on the S4 it gives you an option how bright you want it...with max being 5+. How come this isn't the same on other devices? is it like that for the galaxy S3 too?

Yeah it's a Samsung thing.... Basically your telling it to go + 5 levels higher (or lower ) than it chooses for Auto Brightness.

If you find auto brightness too low but want benefits of auto brightness then go up from +1 step to +5 steps.... Or vice versa if auto-brightness is too bright.

I tend to find auto-brightness too conservative on Samsung devices, so usually go +3 or +5 on them myself..

So is having it +5 the same as having just normal auto brightness on other devices? like on your HTC one for example? is the brightness the same?

Yep that would be comparable, it asked them similar outside in day light too, whereas normally just on standard auto the s4 tends to be too dim but the +5 made it much better for me personally. Difference it made on battery was negigable for me compared to the increased improvement in screen legibility (especially outdoors)....

Got to admit I'm tempted to leave mine on auto brightness..so much better when outside or inside the office with auto on. You noticed much of a difference battery wise with auto on? as guessing at night the screen goes dark enough where battery life should be better?

Roms like cyanogenmod also offer this functionality. It lets you fine tune the autobrightness for those who think its too dark inside etc.

Battery dropped 7% overnight which was about 7 hours with auto brightness on. So got to admit battery life is better with it on at night at least. To be honest it wasn't too dark either really...

Funny I'm not noticing this on the Sprint S4. Is this part of the MF9 update? Because mine keeps hanging on reboot.

I use Lux on my Nexus 7. Great app though on my old S3 I found it to be a bit hard on the battery. Haven't needed either on my current Razr Maxx HD.

I don't have the "Automatic Brightness Adjustment" slider on my S4 phone. Did you guys mod your phones?

Yes, I have an AT&T version phone, but I don't think that should matter, because the Samsung interface is all over the phone.

Yes, you stole my user name.

Nope, not on mine either. Kinda lame because the auto brightness can't be calibrated to suit personal taste.

    Not a huge deal though.
