iPod touch How do I get on my network?

My school's network is locked, but I do have a username and password for it. However, when I try and connect my iPod touch with it it says that it cannot find the page and won't connect at all. Usually when I am on a laptop at the school, I am prompted to give in a username and password when I open up a web page which does not even happen with the touch. Is there anything I can do to connect and make it allow me to put in a password so I can access the internet there?
