Question as above. Can you do this with the app store app? It is defaulting to AT&T.
I want to put my AT&T Sim card into the Qualcomm/Verizon phone.
Verizon Rep here! If you want to preorder the iPhone X and you don’t have a verizon account, you must first open up a Verizon account. Pick a cheap smart phone just to have one on the account, and buy it at full retail. I’m pretty sure we have a J7 V for only $168 bucks. Once you have the account, you can pre order the iPhone X just like everyone else. REmeber, you have 14 days to return the phone you purchase, so don’t let the $168 lock you in. Of course, Verizon has. $35 restocking fee.
Yes you can, you just have to make sure there is an avalible upgrade on the account. Thanks for the reply. My wife has a verizon account and went with the iPhone 8. Can I order an X through her account?

You can open up the My Verizon App or go online to check if a line is upgradable. If you are paying full cash, then no, the line does not need to be upgradable. What you can do, purchase the iPhone under your wife’s line from Verizon at full retail. Her iPhone won’t shut off unless the iPhone X becomes activated. As long as you leave the iPhone X off until you put you’re new SIM card in the iPhone, you will be fine and then you and your wife will be fine. Her having her iPhone 8 and you having your iPhone X. Sorry if that didn’t make much sense. Haha.If I am paying full cash does it need to have an upgrade available? How do I check if there is an upgrade?

You can only upgrade with a postpaid account...Will this also work if you open a pre-paid account and get a $40 Galaxy J1?
Thank you... just read that in another thread as well...shame on me .You can only upgrade with a postpaid account...
Since the Qualcomm war is still raging, I'm sure they've used Intel in as many devices as possible and Intel isn't CDMA capable yet.How do we know Qualcomm modem is not in the AT&T models this year???
You can also do that, however, we can’t refund your Prepaid plan. Also, I’m not sure how preorders will work with prepaid accounts. Will this also work if you open a pre-paid account and get a $40 Galaxy J1?
One more question on this: once I have a Verizon iPhone X ordered, I can immediately return the temporary CDMA phone (with restocking fee) and cancel the account, correct? When the iPhone X eventually arrives, the VZW account is no longer needed and I can just pop in my AT&T SIM card? You can open up the My Verizon App or go online to check if a line is upgradable. If I did exactly as you described, would the Verizon iPhone then effectively become a SIM-free unlocked model, or does it "lock" to AT&T as soon as I put in the AT&T SIM and activate the iPhone? In other words, would I have the flexibility to swap SIM cards from different carriers, just as I would if I were to purchase a SIM-free, unlocked iPhone X (if one were actually available, which it's not), without having to contact the carrier to unlock the iPhone first? You can open up the My Verizon App or go online to check if a line is upgradable. Sorry for the late reply, but no. Verizon sells unlocked phones. Once you put an att SIM card in there, it’s still unlocked. Att will not lock it to there network. Thanks in advance for the assistance!

This is what I'm doing too. Thanks for the advice on not turning on the new phone! I'll put my AT&T sim right in there.
One more question... Does verizon charge you for the $30 activation fee if you don't actually activate the phone on their network?
Thanks
I would also like to know the answer to this question. I am in the same boat, as a friend allowed me to use his information to purchase a Verizon iPhone X outright and I plan to take the sim card out before powering it on for the first time and place my ATT sim into the phone. I do not want him to incur any additional activation fees as he has already done me a favor. I also noticed in my order information from Apple's mobile app there is a line access fee of $20/month. Will he have to incur those charges as well if I dont activate the pre-installed sim?

I also used to work for ATT.
