Just a thread to discuss how we each maintain a level head while being active on PRSI. My hope is to maybe learn some new techniques and perhaps we can find some common ground with those we find politically frustrating to us.

Personally, I've been finding PRSI to be a difficult place to be lately with the ultra-polarized nature of the discussions/debates/ragefests here.

There are no sane people here. We're all sliding down the rabbit hole...

This makes me very sad. It there has to be some normies around here. Or does the very nature of online political discussion only attract weirdos? So maybe the thread title should be "how do you cope with being an online weirdo?"

Um, we need you to back up the claim that there are sane people in here.

I guess I am just an even tempered guy. Most people here don't annoy me at all. The ones that do or who I feel are here just to be annoying on purpose I put on ignore. But mostly I like everyone here. I often don't understand some people's point of view, and some views are even abhorrent to me, but still I find that I enjoy just about everyone here, even those I disagree with. I even miss some of those who aren't here anymore or only come around for elections.

I just maintain a short and sharp Ignore list.

But other than that, I just try to realise that while we are discussing *cough* real issues, this is just an online forum stuck on to an Apple fan site.

    Perspective. :)

Now… watching the news on the other hand!

It's the internet. If you're taking it too serious, I'd suggest a break.

I recently got into drones and quadcopters. It's a blast. That's been helping me forget about the frustration here.

Spend less time here and more time with real people. We're losing our human connections. Some people are regularly making 10, 20, 30 posts or more in PRSI each day. Spending that much time on an internet forum can't be healthy.

It's quite boring to see the same people, slinging mud from their eco chamber. Incapable of reasoned, or rational thought, but then, the rarest thing in the world is original thought.

I've put most of the trolls on ignore.

Which constitutes about 60% of the forum users..... but hey ho.

I don't take it that seriously and recently it seems some of the really annoying people have been banned so that makes it easier.

What's your definition of a troll? Jess posted some off the wall stuff but I think he was good. Bent and his "good night white pride" was nothing more than a troll.
Side note :I haven't seen you on in a while, how you been?

PRSI is a reflection of one's sanity.

One doesn't come to PRSI and become insane, one was insane to begin with.

PRSI simply helps to reveal the state of mind any of us possess.

I try to avoid that section entirely as I would prefer to not be banned.

If I could argue/discuss 'properly,' I would be more active there. The I'm right and you're wrong conversations don't work for me. Hence, I stay out of things usually.

Just wish MR would bring back the down vote button!

I don't even know what sanity is, I have to look it up... brb.

On a side note, I guess I do enjoy a good political debate. I try to understand the rational of others with opposing views as mine. Actually I used to be very active over at the Fox News comments section as well. If you guys think PRSI is bad here? You should see the comments over at Fox. They had to temporarily shut down all comments to articles for a few months over there.

I had to get out. I don't post or read here much often, anymore. Most folks, on both sides of the aisle, are in a circle jerk with all those that agree with them and unwilling to consider others' opinions, or consider that they themselves are wrong. Of course it's that way -- it's human nature. Whenever I'm in PRSI, all I do is argue and call out folks just like the next guy.

I came to peace with the fact that in 90% of cases, I am not going to change the minds of the folks that disagree with me here, and I realized that my time and energy would be better spent not arguing politics with strangers on the internet. It was a nice realization to come to.

I'd rather hang out in the company of those that oppose me where we can enjoy our common interests (in-person) rather than to spend time in an environment where we are defined by our political views (PRSI). Cheers.
